AEzine Challenge : week two

LifeartchallengelogoWhen I come up with a concept that really seems to resonate with me I try to repeat it as often as makes sense. This is all part of not making things more complicated than they need to be. One of my current favorite concepts is simply called This Month which features a run down of the things that are happening for Chris, Simon and me over the course of a month. You could easily do this weekly as well - a week in review sort of page. Another cool thing about this concept is that it begs to not be written in complete sentences. This week's challenge is to create a layout titled This Month. Use what you and your family did last month as the content. For each person in your family (or just for yourself) make a list of all the things that were happening. Here's an example of the type of journaling I am challenging you to use: started your second year of preschool; ate apples, cheese, and chips for lunch almost everyday; you were totally into the "elephant" Baby Einstein movie; you seem to be talking more all the time; lots of giggles and chasing Daddy around in the evening; etc. One thing I love about this concept: even if you scrapbook only 12 times a year you will have one page for each month - a wonderful peek into you and your families lives. Here is my layout: Themonth This layout was created by making a square collage in Photoshop (6x6 at 300 dpi), printing it out at home, and then using a Creative Memories circle cutter (the largest one). I adhered it to white cardstock and then stitched over the seams of the photos (creating three separate areas on the layout). The circle journaling spots, the circle "us," and the chipboard letters are all from Heidi Swapp. Ink is from Stampin Up (called more mustard). Stamp is Karen Russell for Fontwerks. Looking forward to seeing your pages! And thanks for all the comments on the All About Me Album. So cool. The butterfly stamp is one I got a long time ago as a sample after buying an address stamp from Paper Angel - it works so great as a little accent. The large butterfly is from My Sentiments Exactly (YY221). The lines within the album for jouranling were created with a stamp from Fontwerks called Ticking (MO-621). The "A" came from my friend Tricia - she just gave it to me the other day at lunch - ended up being perfect for that album.

Love this idea Ali...actually just did a layout for August as well following a layout I saw in CK a few months ago - now I think I will keep this going every month. I kept mine super simple - here it is...

Loved your book and layout. Thanks to you I have started to keep an online blog for my family and friends and I have started to write down all of the conversations I've had with my family members. The weekly challenge is great, it gives me a chance to do at least one project in between time with my twins. My layout is much different from my normal stuff, not sure I like it, but I tried something totally new.

So much good Ali stuff lately. Just read your "Lucky Girl" article. So good. So much more than just another technique or a layout to lift. I love this idea and loved reading all the "guest" layouts (LOVED that you included one of my favorite Life Artist---Sara Winnick).
I've really resisted the 'scrap yourself' fad/emphasis...but now I am looking forward to creating a Blessings album, about all the things I am most grateful for.
Thanks Ali for all your inspiration!

thnx ali for another awesome challenge! this is so outside my box since i usually scrap the events~holidays~milestones instead of the moments & the everyday you profess so well. so i went into major detail & totally ran w/ it. really loved this concept. i do year end reviews but the week & month stuff captures so much more. can't wait for next week's challenge.

Okay, so I thought I was the only one that did this! I started a monthly system like this a couple months ago & LOVE it. Honestly, it's the only scrapbooking I've been doing lately because the system is so doable. Fun to read I'm not the only one who does this. :)

Ali, you're one of those people who genuinely amaze me and make me wonder how much more I am truly capable of being in my own life. You're always on the go, you have a child that presents you with special challenges, a very busy husband and a prosperous, busy career of your own. You appear to handle it all with such grace and aplomb. Your creativity and views on life are incredibly inspiring. Thanks so much for sharing yourself with all of us in the scrapping community.

    Hi Ali,
Thank you for the encouragement to get the words down! The challenge to use short sentences war really hard for me, because I always write long stories :-)But I have tried!
