Where in the world?

Well, it is 1:12am and I am in Las Vegas.

There was some sort of mix-up in my flight plans (one of those where each airline is blaiming the other - so fun - I was really trying hard to tell myself it was "ok" - but it really was/is "not ok" - did a bit of crying - that feeling where you just want to get home) and ended up not being able to get on the last flight out of Vegas to Eugene. So here I sit...in a nice room at Mandalay Bay. Had to sleep somewhere, right? This sounded much better than staying at the airport until tomorrow evening.

Needless to say, the newsletter is going to be a bit late this week. I may work on it tomorrow or I may just take the day off and stroll around Vegas before I head home (through San Francisco of course - which will mean that over a time span less than 48 hours I have been in CT, NY, Denver, Las Vegas, San Fran, and finally, hopefully, end up back in Eugene. Awesome.

The joys of travel. Gotta love it. At least I am in a city that never sleeps (except for the people at the United counter who had all gone home for the night - grrr).

I can't figure out which airline dropped the ball United or US Air. Both are blaming the other. I've been on hold for an hour now while they bicker among themselves about who is going to pay for the new ticket. Of course neither is willing to pay for the extra night of hotel. The only helpful person in this situation has been "Spencer" from American Express Travel. I called him in the very beginning to see if he could help Ali out. He then called US Air with me. When the US Air agent understood the problem she started hassling me about calling instead of Ali, (who was searching for a hotel at that point) Spence stepped up and said in his very polite Indian accent, "Ma'am, it is hardly of consequence why Mr. Edwards is calling you instead of his wife. What we need to do right now is find a new flight for Mrs. Edwards to get from Las Vegas to Eugene. If you won't help me, then please let me speak with your supervisor."
Way to step up Spence! Anyway, despite the gesture the supervisor has proven no more helpful and I am well over an hour on this call now.
Simon is going to be upset in the morning, He couldn't get to sleep tonight because he knew mom was coming home and would be here when he woke up in the morning. We'll cross THAT bidge in the morning... Night night.

WOW Chris--what a super guy you are--no kidding--my husband would never do these kinds of calls for me because he cannot talk to people he doesn't know on the phone.....no kidding here. I used to tease him about not being able to call the bus company and listen to the recording because it was sure to be someone he didn't know!!
I'll be thinking of you later this morning and hoping that explaining to Simon where his Mom is goes okay.

Oh hon, don't worry at all about the newsletter. You need some time off after such a draining day and possibly some retail therapy. I'd lend you my broomstick to get you home but by the time it gets to you from here, you'll be home safe and sound with your boys who will be over the moon to see you.
    Lots of love, Karen xx

The lack of control that we have when we travel by airline is so darn frustrating. Best of luck getting home!

Ali, I'm so sorry. Make the best of it - ride on the tram over to MGM grand and see the real lions in glass enclosure in the casino - the trainers tell you about them. There is also an M&M store next to MGM grand. At the Mandalay Bay they have a shark tank, don't know if that is free or not though. The other things are. There is also a shopping mall inside Caesar's.
    Take care. Michelle

Hang in there Ali - I know not getting home absolutely sucks and the red tape and run around are so so so annoying.
If I were you I think I would buy myself about 5-10 great magazines and a few fabulous lattes (or coffees in your case) from Starbucks.
Wishing you a safe and speedy return home.
    Chin up!!

I stayed at the MB Hotel a few weeks ago and it was great. Even though it's not by choice, make the best of your stay and do some shopping between the MB and the Lexor. They have the absolute cutest store for pets...couture everything! Even if you don't have a pet, you can always find a gift there. Good luck!
