Father's Day Traditions

Fatherday

Happy Friday & thanks for all the supportive + celebratory comments yesterday.

This Sunday is Father's Day. We don't have any specific plans yet so I was wondering if anyone was interested in sharing their favorite Father's Day traditions? Maybe it is something you do every year or something special you are planning for this Sunday specifically.

I asked Chris what he wanted to do for Father's Day and he said work :) and read.

Don't forget that my first round of Designer Digitals templates and brushes will be released this Sunday (they release new products every Sunday).

This year we are traveling to celebrate Father's Day with my dad. He is so excited about it! We plan to cookout, swim and just enjoy being together. Money is tight this year, so we made homemade gifts -- a grilling apron with the kids handprints on it and a photo cube with photos and drawings that the kids made. Weather is supposed to be great this weekend - yeah!

I am just begining to start a new gift tradition. Last year we purchased a giant uber sized golf club for my husband. This year we found an enormous TV remote and an oversized coffee mug (the one at M's you may have seen)we will decorate that with rub-ons. I am always atracted to anything mini, but the over sized things make me laugh! Luckily my husband can take a good joke and he treasures everything from the kids.
I have to say the tent idea with just Dads and kids is a very inviting idea. Thanks for sharing.

My hubby loves to canoe, unfortunately we don't get to go as much as we'd like. But on father's day we go to a neighborhood pond and have a picnic and paddle around a bit. Nice easy little deal.

Homemade applesauce donuts and fresh squeezed orange juice! Along with "The Washington Post", "The New York Times", as well as the local newspaper. And then we head to the out to see a baseball game. Some years it is a professional game, other years, it's our extended family in Grandma's backyard. And afterwards, once the children are tucked in for the night...a brand spanking new book along with a glass of wine. He swears he doesn't want the routine to ever change, we like it too.

This year - due to scheduling conflicts and the hot, hot weather - we're doing a father's day breakfast by the pool. We'll be honoring DH, DD, and DB. I'm really excited about the new tradition, and I love eating breakfast outside. I'm going tomorrow to buy some special little table things. Hope Simon's dad has a great day on Sunday!

This is my hubby's first Father's Day and we are going to the SF Giants vs Oakland A's game. Maybe this could be the start of a tradition :)

Husband and I will take the boys to the movies on Sunday. The Saturday before Dad's Day is always our youngest's bday party so we are whipped on Sunday....we sit in the cool theater with soda and popcorn...this year we will laugh at Kung Fu Panda.

All American AA baseball we'll go see. It's family friendly and affordable. Since it's Father's Day we'll even actually purchase lunch at the ballpark, not just our traditional 4th inning goodie.

My Dad is recovering from cancer and on Fathers Day I will be taking part in Race for Life for Cancer Research with my daughter and my Dad will be proudly watching us. I know it will be very emotional but for a good cause. We are then going to have a huge family bbq.
My children will give their Dad breakfast in bed and lots of goodies for he is a fab Dad. Happy Fathers Day everyone.

Father's Day seems to be about outdoor activites. My guys have a father/son golf outing, which included many of the same in my neighborhood. Then it ends with a barbecue in the backyard with STEAKS. The backyard gets a special clean up that day by the girls for a change. It is always a fun day to be together as a family. Enjoy starting your own traditions, Ali.

I'm not much of an entertainer, but I'm having my husband;s father and my father over to my house for "Father's Day Lunch." the Dad's will eat it up, and my kids will get to spend the day with both grandpas!

Every year we take a "park tour". We live in a very large neighborhood with many small neighborhoods. Scattered throughout are a lot of parks, so we load up the kids with snacks and drinks and tour the parks. It was my husband's idea a couple of years ago and it has stuck and become something that we really look forward to! We have to start really early here in AZ, but it's fun and a great start to Father's Day!

LOL on the working - my DH has a ton to do as well, though I think he'll try to abstain. This year we're going out for breakfast because that't the meal that he makes most often and appreciates the most. I did a 12x12 collage of tiled pics and handprints for him that goes in a frame for the office. Thanks for the encouragement that photos and this craft should be a part of our daily lives.

Our favorite Father's Day tradition has to do with dinner. My (now) 5 year old blindfolds Daddy and we drive to our dinner reservation. We take the most round about route possible, and once we arrive at our destination, we make him guess where we are. This would be our 3rd year doing it, but I recently had ankle surgery and can't drive. We cap the evening off with an ice cream cake - my son's favorite treat to bring to his dad.
    Happy Father's Day to Chris!

Our Father's Day tradition generally starts on Friday and ends on Sunday night. First, on Friday night, we head out to dinner and bring it to the softball field and eat there with him, next we (me and the kids) go home early and prepare for Saturday's game and check on him to see if he needs anything. This is his alone time. Saturday morning, we pack up and head out to the softball fields and watch him all day and pamper him and cheer him on. After that, we (me and the kids) head home and make cards for Dad. Then early in the morning while he sleeps in the kids make him "breakfast" (cereal and OJ). Then we gather around him in the morning and everyone jumps on him whispering, "Happy Father's Day Daddy! We love you! Now you can go back to sleep :)."
Of course, he doesn't he smiles and gets up and is "surprised" about their great accomplishment of making breakfast! Then they just chit chat and tell Dad all about their cards and how much fun they had watching him play softball. That's our tradition and I love every minute of it with him! ;)
I love the picture of your guys! :) Too precious!
    Hugs,
    Vida
