My advice would be to do it for you and your family - don't worry about what other people do or what is "trendy". Have fun!

    Hey,
Love all the giveaways!! They are amazing.
I wish that when I had started scrapbooking someone would have told me that
I didn't need to use so many photos on each of my layouts. It's much more fun and less stressful to scrap a "story" rather than a million of the same picture.

Don't compare what you do to the people in magazines. They are for inspiration only. Just like the rest of life, you have to find your own style and method through a lot of trial and error.

I wish that someone had told me that buying and using the right kind of adhesive would be worth the expense and far less frustrating then seing my hard work come apart.

Don't buy everything you see and like. You will regret it later when you finally find your style and end up with the supplies you "used" to like. We ALL have those supplies. lol... Take it (the buying) slow.
    Thanks for the giveaways!

my best advice for a new scrapbooker...pick a project. I LOVE mini books try Ali's a week in the life project, or project 365 (becky higgins/creating keepsakes kit), a birthday book, house book, etc. It is easier to choose photos and products when you are focusing on a theme or topic.
I wish some one had told me to take photos of my babies "2000" parts. I also wish someone had told me/showed me how to journal from the heart.

I guess I wish someone had told me that there are no rules! Just do what feels good on your pages and use the Principles of Design to guide you. There is no wrong way to create in scrapbooking or art. I think I got so wrapped up in being perfect and following the trends that I forgot to do what I love! Now, I don't follow rules, I create artwork... no rules, just guidelines.

I would tell a new scrapper to not impulse buy. It is easy to get caught up in the moment and buy great fun things that you never use. (I still buy too much stuff!)

My advice to a new scrapbooker would be to not shop too much for scrapbook supplies. Just buy the basics first and then if you see other stuff that you may like, think it through if you really need the item and what you could possibly do with it before actually buying it. Or else you'd end up with so many unused stash in your scrap area.

The best advice I can give to someone just starting their scrapbook journey is to not take it too seriously. Have fun, it shouldn't be work. You had fun making the memories, scrapping them should evoke the same feelings.

My best advice would be not to buy anything and everything!! Buy basics for sure, but seriously forget about getting every single doo-dad! Just stick with basics and your pages will be classic and timeless!!

I would recommend to a new scrapbooker to not get caught up in how far behind you think you are; I would encourage one to enjoy the process and to scrapbook the way it works for you.

I wanted to buy everything, including huge paper stacks that I loved. I never used all of it and wished I had only bought a little bit of the things I liked instead of buying in "bulk".

...that scrapbooking is not a competitive sport. It's recordkeeping. It's pictures and stories as seen BY YOU. Fifty years or more from now what will matter is the who, what, where, when and why - so be sure to record these details. The rest? The rest is just fluff.

Journal more--and if you're not confident enough to add your thoughts to the front of the layout it's okay to write them on the back too.

I wish I was told that "There is no right or wrong in what you create. You just have to keep doing it and then find your own style, color combination and inspiring words from there. Every creation is unique."

To focus on the picture and the story...not if people will like the layout. It isn't about the "perfect" page, but sharing and expressing the meaningful moment.
Ahh....still need this advice sometimes. :-)

I wish someone had told me to just go for it! That there is no wrong way to scrapbook and that the more you do, the better it gets! Keep going and if you are hesitant to just jump in with both feet, this is a hobby you cannot ruin!

Don't buy everything you see. When I first started scrapbooking there was not a lot around so if it had on it that it was for scrapbooking I bought it, ugly diecuts that were never used and blah papers. I would advise them to invest in a few good quality tools, some basic card stock colours and to follow their heart with what they want instead of what others expect of them. And last but most certainly not least, have fun with it.

I wish someone had told me to just enjoy the entire process. At first it seemed so scary and overwhelming. Almost like homework. Fortunately with time and a lot of practice I overcame my hardships. :D
