Love this simple documentation idea from The Simple Woman's Day Book via apple likes orange:
FOR TODAY
June 21st, 2009
Outside my window…my red leaf lettuce is waiting to harvested.
I am thinking…about the content for my upcoming 3-month workshop at Big Picture Scrapbooking called Yesterday & Today & that it is just about time for bed.
I am thankful for…things we don't ask for (or think we want) but get anyway & weekends like this where the four of us are all together with no agenda other than to simply be together.
From the kitchen…ribs tonight cooked low & slow from a Paula Dean recipe (loved it) and ten small jars of freezer jam all ready to go.
I am wearing…jeans & a blue top with white stitching & no shoes.
I am creating…layouts for my column in the October issue of Creating Keepsakes.
I am going…to have some jello for dessert.
I am reading…The Three Marriages (recommended by Jen Lemen)
I am hoping…that both kids will be well enough to go to the babysitter's tomorrow so I can get some things done.
I am hearing…Chris' iphone playing Learning To Fly (Tom Petty) while he checks his email.
Around the house…there is a large pile of cloth diapers on the couch waiting to be put away.
One of my favorite things…is that Simon fell asleep across Chris' lap tonight as the three of us sat here on the couch after Anna had gone to bed. I scratched his back and he was out. I think he gets that from me – I love having my back scratched.
A few plans for the rest of the week…work tomorrow, playdate with Tricia and her kids on Tuesday, Paolo here for a visit on Wednesday, doctor's appointments on Thursday, work Friday
A picture to share…

I think Anna is really starting to look like you! If I had the time, I would do this kinda post…I guess I need more organization tips! (Oh and a babysitter! WAHM of three who is forever going on four hours of sleep…ha ha!)
Super super cute
Bek xo
I’m glad to see your couch is filled with “everyday stuff” like mine! Love that Anna is in the middle of all of it too-so cute.
Great photos and again a great inspirational post for journaling! Love it…
Great photo! Thanks for sharing your everyday REAL life with us!!!
Great photo, Anna is soooo beautiful baby!!! thanks for sharing Ali!
Thanks for sharing – love the idea of catching small glimpses of everyday thought in a systematic way.
Will have to copy that idea. Beautifull pictures.
just beautiful, ali.
tom petty rocks!
Happy Monday Ali!
I’m afraid to take pictures like this because things don’t look “perfect”. But this is a BEAUTIFUL shot. I can see it now.
Thanks for the courage.
This is life. This is everyday.
Another sweet Father’s Day post about your lovely family.
Great post! Loved it….have a wonderful week!
I love this idea and may use it too. I also have to tell you that I love that you post pictures of your daughter. She reminds me so much of my little girl (who is now 5 years old). It often makes me want another when I see sweet Anna. I even show my husband your updates about once a week. We lOve your blog!
{heart] your post!
{heart} pix of you lil A in middle laundry.
fantastic post!! off to share it.
I’ve been doing the simple woman’s daybook for nearly a year. Planning on using them for a year in review – such an easy way to summarize our lives. Did mine this morning, nice to read yours.
I, too, have been doing the simple woman’s daybook for quite a while now. I love looking back on all the Monday Musings I have written. I’m so glad I have those little glimpses into our daily life that I know I would have forgetton already if I had not written them down. I just did mine this morning and it was nice to read yours too!

I visit you blog often and get motivation from it to take the pictures i would normally overlook, or plans to make gifts for my family, or celebrate my life though my life art, or just take in a moment that’s arround me. But, in my mind I get that funny pedistal/celebrity thing that would make me blush like a geek if I ever met you in person at a CKU or something. Point is, I appreciate your transparency with life and that you will let us see that you cover all surrounding surfaces with laundy and the daily chores that need be. It reminds me that life is a journey everyone is on, and who knows, maybe my reality will inspire a friend one day.
Love the photos! Anna is SO CUTE!!
Loved the post with some great start off points. Great photo of Dad and Anna. Real life for real people!
I just totally copied this idea, what a great way to record little bits of life here and there. Thanks for sharing!
I was just Tweeting that I am thinking about doing more “documentary-style” scrapbooking, and then I came over here, and you were ALREADY DOING IT! Awesome- thanks for the inspiration! Love, love, love the picture of Anna in the midst of “real life.” That’s just the kind of photo I like to take. Also, could that baby look more like you? She is a doll!
Welcome to Real Life. I love it! You really are wise to recognize those little gifts of the weekend easy time. I ‘tried too hard’ when I was raising my children and those times slipped away in making sure I was getting things done.
The pic of Chris and Anna fits perfectly.
I love this post. You’ll be glad to have documented these things!
What an amazing idea for a page! I’m gonna do it! Recently I’ve been doing more “in the moment” journaling and scrapbook pages, and this has been great inspiration. PS. I’m glad to know that your living room when you’re doing laundry looks like my living room when i’m doing laundry.
Anna is precious
wow ali; it’s nice to see some REAL life from your house.
you always seem to have so many things so together and nice. thanks for sharing with us!

Ali- I come here everyday and love your posts….everyday!
You are an inspiring wife and mother to me.
I love the way you live your life.
You make me smile…you should post more about your Big Pictue Scrapbooking class.
Sounds fun!
I loved the pics you had today!
I’m so lovin’ your laundry on the couch picture….good to know someone else’s couch looks like mine when there is laundry needing to be folded!! :> Ribs were on our menu last night too. Even though it was Father’s Day, made a fab dinner, roasting the ribs in the oven and finishing them on the Q. Have a fabulous week! :>
That picture at the top is perfect! What a great way to document what’s going in your home right now!
Really enjoyed this entry Ali, thanks for making me feel thankful
Gorgeous photo of Anna and Chris
When does registration start for the class at Big Picture? I want to make sure I get a spot
Oh Ali I could just squeeze you! Love this blog and I’m so excited to see your new products..woo hoo! I’ll be purchasing these: )
You gotta love doing tons of laundry.
I really love the picture of Anna on the couch with the laundry.
What a great real life picture of Anna!!!! This is EXACTLY what my house looked like when my son was a baby. Really brought back memories (and a good laugh!).
Oh my Gosh, the laundry fairy made a deposit at my house, too.
Thanks Ali… I love, love the bucket seat and the sofa w/ everything. It really captures a mood. I find myself here a ton b/c I love the simplicity of your layouts. Anna is BEAUTIFUL too. I look forward to October’s CK.
Thanks Ali – Love the post and the pictures and the prompts!
Great capture!
October issue already?! wow! I didn’t realize you had to work that far ahead!
if you’re amazing scrapbook style wasn’t enough – you also use cloth diapers?! – now I really feel inadequate
Yep – and it’s actually november I am working on right now (made a mistake when I was writing this up last night).
loved this post. hope your kids are healthy!
Love the post Ali, this is my favourite thing, capturing the everyday, you have great ideas and you do it so well. I have been going back reading your early posts it is so enjoyable to do, I have a question though, I don’t think I have yet come across a post on rounding corners in photoshop like on your pictures above, have you shared this before. Thank you hope you enjoy your week! Love Anna sitting amoungst all the folding!
I love that your house looks like that at times too! LOL!
I’m one of the many, I used to think “only me” who when I had a baby their was laundry to be folded and folded piles. I have 4 kids. Thank you for being so honest.
Ali, this was a great post and a great idea for one of my own. Thanks for your continued inspiration!
I love this post! I think I’d like to make this idea into a mini-album.
what a fun photo and post! we are having tom petty “music in the park” in a couple weeks.
cute baby! love the design of your blog!
