If you could only create 12 scrapbook layouts that defined your life what stories would you tell?

I am thinking about mine.

Thanks for making me think... it was interesting to see your little seed did when it was planted... here's my end result!!!
I couldn't just put my life down on one page... being the age I am... I have become who I am because of my life, from childhood to teen years to the selfish 20's reflective 30's and accepting 40's... each would need it's own page...
Anyway, this is what I came up with...
    1. My childhood (holidays, the 28 places I lived including the farms, crushes, my family, my 2 sisters, my brother, best childhood memories)
    2. My Teen years (jr/sr high, dates, cheer, friends, crushes, Church camp, holidays, my family, my 2 sisters, my brother, mistakes I made and what I would do different)
    3. My 20's (hopes, dreams, college, art & how it's influenced my life, friends, disastrous dates that now make me laugh, broken hearts, holidays, my family, my 2 sisters, my brother, mistakes I made and what I would do different)
    4. My 30's (becoming more aware of my life & make better choices, dating, being single, disastrous dates that now make me laugh, friends, holidays, my family, my 2 sisters, my brother, mistakes I made and what I would do different)
    5. My 40's (accepting singleness, getting married, getting pregnant, friends, my family, my 2 sisters, my brother, holidays, buying a home, work, becoming a SAHM, taking time to enjoy everyday moments)
    6. Why I love my husband
    7. My children (Daughter, step-son, newphew I raised)
    8. My mom & dad (their love story, what kind of influence they were in my life, caring for them as they've become sick)
    9. My Family tree (Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins)
    10. Art (school, teachers, stages, techniques, mediums, computer, graphic design... how it's stimulated my life and made me who I am)
    11. Travel (places I've been and hope to go to)
    12. My relationship with Christ (being a Christian, how it's changed my life & why my life is so much richer)

Wow, this is awesome, triggered some deep thoughts here, like if I could only have 12 people (besides immediate family), go 12 places, if I had 12 days to live....I think I'll be a-scrappin this list :) And I'm definitely goin 2 page spread... so much LIFE to fit in here!
-A 365 page-- hmm.. either lots of photos in pockets or tiny-winy "pieces of life"..
    -My Maternal Grandparents
    -My Paternal Grandparents
-"What I wish for my Life"
-"While I live I want to..."
    -My Beliefs
    -My Parents
-Advice to my Siblings, "If only they'd listen..."
    -Today, Here, Now...
-People that helped make me who I am
-Letter to my yet unknown sweetheart :)
-Home, what makes it home to me, and my love of domestic life...I was made for the 'olden days', only give me running water, a computer, and my ipod...
That's what comes to mind... Thanks for the thought starter!!

I sometimes feel the way you describe, but if there's one thing I've learned,it is to not wait for other people... Don't wait for your life to begin, or to find your sweetheart, I promise that if you just GO and MAKE your life the best you can, no matter what stage in life you're at, the rest will come.. I too am 'waiting for my sweetheart' and for a home of my own, but I wouldn't give up this time to learn and grow for anything! Like my older sister told me, do EVERYTHING you ever wanted to do, learn everything you wanted to know BEFORE you get married. You will be too busy later, and your interests will change anyway. Do what you like NOW! ...and of course, some of those dreams include a special someone, seeing as how sleeping out under the northern lights wouldn't be very romantic if you were alone ;)... but hey, just think, you'll never be 'single' again so live it up!! Anyway, I think you should make a list of the here and nows.... and even use one of them to tell about "waiting" ... You can do another 12 LATER ;) besides, you'll amaze yourself at what was inside your head, when u get 10 years down the road...
When ever friends bother me about being an 'old maid' and never getting hitched, I tell them to stop fretting cuz "I'll know him when I see him." (They think I'm a little wacko, but I believe in that so it's fine) ;)... seriously tho-- make a list! whether you scrap it or not, put it away in your inspiration file for later!! ---And good luck for an awesome guy-- I'll race you to the altar ;)

I just contemplated this recently when I decided that I'd like to make an album all about me. I wrote an outline to start the process. I broke up the outline into sections including baby/toddler days with info from my mom's perspective, elementary days, middle school, high school, college, single days and my life with my husband and children so far. I rarely think in terms of stories, but more of facts and anecdotal notes. I'm looking forward to reading what you and your readers come up with!

    1. My parents divorced when I was 10, so I would tell that story from my perspective - being the eldest of 5 and taking the role of caretaker/wife/mother at such a young age.
    2. I would also want to tell some stories about my college years...
    3. Meeting my husband and our life together
    4. Heritage...I adore finding out more about the stories that make up my family tree - who they were and what they did. I am hoping to uncover more through geneology websites, census, etc.
    5. Our dog - who is the light of our lives and what he brings to our family.
    6. Buying our first house together and what makes it a home
    7. Friends through the years - at different points
    8. My jobs - the road to how I got to where I am now
    9. My passions - yes, including ice cream..(I am sure there must be a support group for that)
    10. A tribute to my "dead" people - those who I have lost and what they meant
    11. My everyday
    12. A letter to the young me from the older me - acknowleging my hopes and dreams and how I am living them.

#4 totally cracks me up! I was in love with Spock (yeah, I'm a geek). What really makes me giggle though, is the differences between Kirk and Gene Simmons -- too funny! Love your list and think it's so awesome that you've written a book -- very cool! Also, love the names of your kitties!
Now, I'm off to check out your blog because you sound so interesting!

Wow... I ended up reading all those responses and I'm blown away by the inspiration this has caused. Thanks for making us think, Ali. I would have to say 12 scrapbook layouts that have defined my life would be (very random)
1)the smell of sawdust, oil & sweat on my dad
2)the sounds of children happily playing (both from childhood & motherhood)
3)summers in tahoe, splashing in the lake with my siblings
4)the death of a childhood friend, allowing me a glimpse at a young age of just how fragile life is and the embracing of life that followed
5)spotting my first love (and now husband) the very first class on the first day of junior high, and knowing that he was "the one"
6)the moment that my daughters emerged and were placed in my arms, the weight of that responsibility & love
7)the taste of sweet tomatoes, strawberries & corn, fresh picked and eaten while laying in the summer grass
8)i'm a dog person, i used to think i was a cat person. i was wrong.
9)a list of my top 100 favorite things (including pedicures, baby giggles, lazy sundays, the way RC looks at me, josh duhamel, the smell of wet cement, rascal flatts...)
10)the time i ran off the stage in the middle of the 4th grade talent show
    11) my continued search for peace with my mother's addiction
    12) a letter to a future generation, offering guidance in the hopes that they learn from my generation's mistakes.
