Backyard Superheros + Updates

Annasuperhero

Backyard superheros were in full-force this weekend.

Superheros

Blankets as capes held together with chip-bag clips.

Him

Him. Captain Pickles.

Her

Her. Mrs. Pickles.

Play

Him wanting her to play. Her having other ideas.

Anna-out

And so it goes with two.

In certain moments one desperately wants to play with the other and then, in the very next moment, wants absolutely nothing to do with them. The result is disappointment and frustration and whining and tears and Mama's call to "take a break" for a bit.

The in-between is filled with tenderness, belly laughs, and peeks at the future and makes it all worthwhile.

We're all doing quite a bit of navigation these days. Finding our places in this new space, fumbling in the dark in an unfamiliar hallway, figuring out what drawer makes the most sense for the silverware, getting ready for the change of seasons, etc.

It's all part of the journey. And we can all use a little help from superheros now and then.

A big change to this site is coming soon. I'd hoped to have it up for you today and a few of you might have caught a glimpse of it this past weekend as some testing was done. There's a few bugs to work out before taking it completely live. I'm excited for this transformation.

To celebrate the redesign I'll be conducting another Really Big Giveaway. If your business is interested in learning more about sponsorship opportunities such as this please email me for additional information.

This is so cute Ali, love seeing your photos of them playing together and sometimes not playing well together. We all go thru it, especially right now at my house, the last couple of weeks have been tough but they go to school tomorrow and could use the break from each other. Love how Simon wants to include Anna in his play, cool idea with blankets and clips.
Good luck on unpacking and exited to see your new site!!

I absolutely adore your backyard, perhaps when you have time you can share more pictures of the backyard.
I love the pictures, Simon is so handsome and love those eyelashes! I only have one question, where did little baby Anna go? Oh my gosh has she grown! She is absolutely adorable and oh so grown up now, it's amazing how time fly's! Can't wait to see the website!

The good news is, you can always switch silverware drawers later if you decide it isn't working. I just recently moved my microwave after having it in what we thought was the perfect sport for 2 years, and it's like a whole new kitchen. :)
The kids, as usual, are adorable.

Beautiful outdoor photos, Ali! That's awesome that your kids have enough space for outdoor plays. I love the expression of Mrs. Pickles, that photo of Anna is priceless. :)
    Enjoy your new house.

When my niece and nephew were small, my mother made up stories to entertain them. The main characters were Pickle Polly--my niece LOVES dill pickles--and her brother, Buster Bean--nephew LOVES all sorts of beans. Captain and Mrs. Pickle brought those memories back...my mom was SUCH a good grandmother. I'm not a grandmother, but I'm a great-aunt, and want to be just as wonderful as my mom was.
    Love the pictures...

My son made me "make him a superhero" this weekend too!! Only I used a hari tie to clasp his blanket and I had to redo it a million times!! Too cute!

Loved your post! For me it was always finding the right light switch or standing in the middle of my kitchen and trying to think which drawer to open. We are so blessed! I love all the little daily photos - am documenting the same with Grandkids and even my husband and I just the little things - that's the journey. I have a feeling I got on yesterday when the test was up because I tried to get an old video lesson and it wouldn't load.
Looking forward to the new site.

Makes me want to don a cape too. Looks like lots of fun. Your yard is gorgeous!
Our number 2 baby is not yet on the way and one of my biggest worries is the age difference. It's nice to know they can play together (even if it is before one changes their mind) = )

Precious children. My two youngest grandchildren are the same way. Tanner will play with his little sister if no one else is around. She is very vocal when she doesn't get her way and we have to put them in time out occasionally. It is so funny to listen when they are playing make believe. It is amazing what they can come up with. Hope all goes well with the new site and with your new home.

Thank you for sharing your pictures! Your two kiddos remind me of my own two and Anna reminds me of my Emily as a baby! When mine were littel "Rollie Polly Ollie"was big on Playhouse Disney and my son would always put a mini colander on my daughter's head to make her a "bot". I still have the pics! It's so nice to remember those days on a day one is headed to 6th grade and the little one to 2nd! Good luck with your new digs! How exciting!

What a wonderful post today! I am a grandmother now of a 3 y.o. but your words evoked memories of when her daddy and his brother played superheros. I immediately remembered them in cowboys boots, shorts and a towel cape! Oh, how quickly 35 years go by!
