Heartfelt Thanks
Heartfelt thanks to all those who work tirelessly, and to so many who have given their lives, to serve and protect our country.
It would have felt strange to post anything else here today.

My daughter is a Marine recruit and will be shipping out to boot camp on May 16. Today, she and I went to MEPS (the office where all military recruits ship from here in Portland) and watched three of her good friends swear in and ship out to Marine boot camp. All of the recruits, for all 5 branches, were 26 years old and younger and most were under the age of 21. As the mother of a Marine recruit my heart was full of gratitude and such overwhelming emotion that these young men and women choose to serve their country and are eager to begin their journey. Thank you Ali for your words of support. You would be amazed how rude and unkind some of our friends and our daughter's friends have been to her because she is choosing to serve her country.
Thank you for supporting your daughter and her friends.
I always have to restrain myself and remember that our freedoms prevent our government from banning speech against our military. But *I* don't have to listen to it without comment!

Thank you so much to every service man and woman. God Bless America. May today help those who lost a loved one on 9/11 know that the world has not forgotten and never will.

This is a historic moment for our country and we owe a HUGE thanks to the brave men and women of this country. It takes a very special person to voluntarily join the military and fight for freedom. I am a proud mother of a captain in the U.S. Army who has done two tours in Iraq. I am not only proud of him but also in awe of him and all the military personnel who watch our backs and keep us safe.

My son is serving his 4th year as a Marine and is currently serving his 2nd tour in Afghanistan. He graduated in March of his senior year and left for boot camp 2 weeks later. The day I took him to the Marine recruiter and they drove to Portland to ship out was the beginning of the worst days of my life. They go through so much and grow up so fast in the military. I am SO proud of him and all the men and women who voluntarily join the military today. They sacrifice so much and get so little.
Thank you Ali for your words, especially coming from a senator's wife. Our military doesn't have the support in our federal government like they used to. The delaying of military wages that was proposed when the federal government was on shut down notice really struck a bad key in many many people. Thank our Father GOD in heaven that that didn't happen.
God Bless our Troops! They are the best of the best and they deserve our support every day! I am so proud of every one of them!
Very Proud Marine Mom
Thanks for your comments deAnne and for the service of your son (and your personal sacrifice). I also just wanted to clarify that Chris is a State Senator (as in he serves in the Oregon Legislature) rather than a Senator at the Federal level.
