Everyone needs a little Elmo.
Battling winter colds around here yesterday and today. Right now Simon is all bundled up on the couch watching Monsters, Inc.
A couple days ago we discovered a great little Elmo video that is a free download from iTunes called Happy, Healthy Ready for School (part of the Learn Along with Sesame program). For some reason I can't seem to post a direct link - if you use iTunes it is listed under TV Shows/Kids/Learn Along with Sesame. As you can see from the photo above, Simon is really enjoying the video (talks about putting your backpack in a cubby, snack time, letters, numbers, etc - all the things he does in his school).
And thanks to Stephanie who sent me a link to The Foundation For A Better Life site yesterday. Uplifting.
I also wanted to share what my Mom wrote in the comments section yesterday regarding those photos she took on the coast:
Thank you for the compliments on
the photos. Ali was correct I used auto-focus on the Digital Rebel XT.
The photos are unedited. The camera was a gift from our three children
to their Dad on Father's Day last year. Both Al and I have really loved
the camera and the digital capabilities. The location of the photos is Clam Island, in the Coos Bay estuary,
of the Oregon Coast. It is available only on low tide. We were the only
ones on the island that day as Al dug Butter clams and Gaper clams.
It's just what Simon loves, as he can run free and investigate on his
own....with Grandma Pati following at a slow walking pace.Simon has been going through a phase where he doesn't want to get
his shoes wet. We bought him a new pair of rubber boots and he followed
me as we splashed through the puddles together. Thanks to Ali and Chris for sharing Simon with us. We are always
thankful to have the opportunity to be with Simon and help him see and
experience the coastal life and the great outdoors.

I am really lucky. Love you Mom.
Your mom is so cool! My kids and I just got back from spending the afternoon with my parents and it's just so wonderful to witness all that love. We are truly blessed by parents who want to be with our kids and nurture them just as they nurtured us.

Thanks for sharing the photos. I am here in Virginia and my grandparents lived in CoosBay - I don't get there very often since they died. Beautiful country!

I don't know if you watch Anderson Cooper, but they shared a youtube video from an autsitic woman and I thought of you. The one they aired was My Language http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnylM1hI2jc
However her other videos are also so thought provoking and enlightening you might enjoy them as well.
I find your work very inspiring and your thought process about scrapbooks very modern and what I always wanted scrapbooks to be.

I loved the photos and it's now on my places 'to visit'! Isn't it wonderful when family can share their love with each other? We just returned from 5 days in Florida (Ft. Myers Beach) with our son and his family. Our grandsons have grown so much since we saw and hugged them last June!

Your mom ROCKS. Now it's easy to see why you're such a centered person, Ali. Like mother, like daughter!!
Those photos make me want to visit the west coast so badly!!

When I grow up, I wanna be a grandma *just like* your mom. :) I've already warned my kids. I told them the other day I was going to be one of those *all-up-in-your-bidnis* granmas...my 18 yr old son leaned over and gave me a kiss, and told me he couldn't wait. :)

Hi Ali! Love your mom's photos! I can see where you got your eye for photography. Just wanted to send you a link http://jodigoins.files.wordpress.com/2007/02/joy-one-week.jpg to a page I did from the first challenge (9 squares) in your book, A designer's Eye for Scrapbooking with Patterned Paper. It's the first challenge I've ever done. What fun! Thanks for all of your inspiration- not just with scrapbooking- but with motherhood and life.

I want your Mom to adopt me! I too have a little autistic son who is an absolute treasure, but sadly neither my parents, nor my husbands parents have ever taken him anywhere, and between them all, he has only been babysat 3 times in his 4 years. I have officially given up on them after reading your post, and your Mom's words. Thanks for sharing. It is heartening to know that it's not that whole generation that is opting out of their grandchildren's lives...just the ones we know!

I enjoyed reading your mom's message. I lost my mom in Oct. 05 after a two-month battle with lung cancer. At the time, I was also going through a divorce. My son, who was 3 at the time had to deal with the double devastation of his parents' divorce and the death of his best friend who happened to also be his granny.
She absolutely adored him. They spent oodles of time together. She was my biggest cheerleader and best friend. She was also my always-in-the-mood babysitter. I know the gratitude you feel when your mom does a couple of errands for you. I wonder if they realize what a help they are being...
When I read your mom's message I was reminded of mine. Thank you.
