Possibilities.

Photos

Once again I am enchanted by the possibilities of stories to be told.

I got a bunch of photos in the mail yesterday that I had uploaded for printing including a great group from our spring break vacation. I often print from home using my HP Photosmart D7360 and am completely happy with the results, but I find that nothing beats opening up that package from the printer.

I went with white borders for our spring break pictures - something different (and definitely inspired by Karen). Getting excited about putting that album together.

And I have to tell you about Simon - he has become a fish. After really getting the hang of the whole swimming thing while on vacation (and basically spending all his time there in the pool) he is pretty amazing in the water now. We went to family swim at a local pool last night and he is just all over the place: under the water, laying on his back, floating on his front, jumping in and getting himself back to the wall even in deeper water, etc. The key for him was giving him a mask. He is definitely building strength and confidence in the water. I am a very happy mama (and Chris is a very happy papa) to be witnessing and encouraging all this (the coaxing out of the water...or pulling out of the water without meltdowns is a whole other story).

Mmmm...love that feeling of opening an envelope of newly-printed pictures...taking a moment to relish in the memories they capture...savoring the possibilities that a stack of photos offers. Hope you have lots of fun with your latest prints. =)

Yes, first you can not get them in the water, then you can not get them out. I remember that with my boys.
I just got a package of pictures myself and am so looking forward to scrapbooking those wonderful stories. Hope you have fun with your photo's/stories. I look forward to seeing your vacation album if you post it. Your albums are always such a great source of inspiration to me!
    Enjoy your little fish.

It is sooo exciting getting photos back from the printer and it is very inspiring as well. It is great to hear about Simon and his fascination for water. I dunno if you saw when I wrote to you about scrapbooking after one of your sketches (p.137 in A desinger's eye for scrapbooking)

Isn't it great when they figure out that swimming thing? The little ones are so much fun to watch while they frolic in the water like little seals. Glad Simon is enjoying it.

love the white borders - just got a set from scrapbookpictures myself...and the water - I think it is the freedom. Madison is a fish too! we always say that she would live in a pool if she was able, only to come out for snack breaks and an occasional dvd. : )
    have a great weekend!

Hi :) I love that picture of Simon laying on the bench/couch. What a great shot! I really like your choice of today's post title, "Possibilities". That's my word for this year. I haven't been doing very well as far as putting it to work or seeing that word at work in my life but I keep looking. I did find a Sherwin Williams ad in May's issue of BH&G. (Here's a photo I took of the ad--cropped to just the word, however: http://www.flickr.com/photos/64193962@N00/2441152802/ ). I know & love that same feeling of getting a package of pictures in the mail (especially when it's from Shutterfly because they have fun packaging). Thanks for all your inspiration. What has inspired you/where have you found inspiration for yourself lately? (other than DD's Inspired workshop). Oh, one last thing...wtg to Simon, for becoming a great swimmer! (sorry this turned out to be such a long comment)

Yay Simon, so glad to hear that he has become Nemo. =) You must take lots of pics so we can see this new adventure of that cutie.
Thanks for the link to the photo developing place. I love their options and have signed up to get some printed. I figure after having about 3000 that I need printed, I better get started soon. I like that you shared with us some of the photos that you received back from them so I was able to see the quality of the print. They look REALLY nice.
Have a great one Ali. Happy Friday.

Just a little trick that I always use to get my kids out of the pool. Most community pools or swim clubs have an adult swim. Ours is the last 15 minutes of every hour. My warning is always: The next time the whistle blows, its time to go. Then they know they have to get out and gather their things. Usually a promise of a snack from the snack machine on the way out adds that extra incentive to pack it in.

I have not ordered photos on line for so long...but after seeing your post, I am going to do that tomorrow. I have my little grandson coming to spend the night tonight and I want to get some good pics. Somehow, having a big stack of favorite photos seems more fun than painstakingly printing a few at a time....Good idea. Love your blog!

Just a comment on your 'fish' - I also have a fish. My daughter who is 6 does not swim but my autistic son can swim like a fish and he's 4. He loves anything to do with water - it calms the senses and obliterates a lot of sensory noise.
Have a happy and swimful summer!

OK, don't want to be the obnoxious blog commenter but I had to comment again today (getting caught up on reading). I am so happy for Simon! I owned a Montessori pre-school for eleven years before selling it five years ago. With the 85 children a day for eleven years I had the privilege of working with many children with autism (gotta be honest, they're my favorite...I don't have a favorite age group, I have a favorite group) and in the summers we would go swimming. I loved swimming as a child and just couldn't believe that it would be anything but wonderful for the children in my care. The calm in the water was so fantastic for them and the calm they received out of the water with the confidence they'd found was priceless. I AM SO HAPPY for him! Congratulations Mama!

Yay Ali and Chris and especially yay for Simon!....although i must admit i had a little chuckle at your additional comment (trying to coax him out of the water without meltdowns! -our problem too!)
I got to our son's preschool today and the lovely director told me he had an 'under-the-chairs-and-tables-kind-of-day'. Some days are good and some have lots of hard times in them too. So when they achieve something like a new love of swimming, or a day at preschool where there's not a huge meltdown over not being allowed to feed the fish, it really is something to celebrate, huh!
There's always hope isn't there - and tonight I needed that reminder :)
    Thanks Ali :)
    With love,
