[ photos + just a few words : layout from Life Artist ]

It's been awhile since I have done a Question & Answer post and I'd like to take some time to do that today and tomorrow. Feel free to ask anything related to scrapbooking, supplies, my creative process, words + photos, organization, technique, minibooks, etc.

I'll leave the comments section open until tonight at 6pm Pacific with the first-round answers to come on Thursday.

    Hi Ali!
What is the best way to print on transparencies/acrylic so that it does not smear? I have had a problem with that when I run a transparency through my printer. Congratulations to you and Chris...and to Simon's new adventure as a big brother. Blessings to you all.

I love making mini-albums, especially for trips, but often print too many photos and have a hard time completing the album. I have 3 uncompleted. This has happened particularly for weeklong trips. Weekend trip albums I've had no problem completing. When you are planning a mini-album, do you have an estimated number of photos you use in a mini-album to make it manageable?

What kind of albums do you use for your 8x11 or 12x12 layouts and why?

Ali- Hello, I wanted to ask if you will be at CKU next year with having a new little one and everything? Also, I was a little suprised to see the crooked picture in your layout above( it looks great)...so unlike you!(lol) Take Care- Tanya

    Hi Ali,
Just wondering how you organize your patterned paper? I just bought stackable paper trays & am attempting to organize by color...which also means all of the paper that comes in a pack is being separated. Have you found a better method? Any advice is much appreciated! :)

Hi Ali. I'm wondering how you decide on what photo sizes to use on your pages. I'm also curious as to how you decide what goes into a mini book... or on 12x12 pages.
    Thanks!

I quite often feel overwhelmed by the amount of photos that I have. How do you overcome that feeling?

What is your opinion about using metal (i.e. brads) on scrapbook pages? Too much acid??

Another vote for organization and specifically, how you make decisions on what to purge. I realize this is very individualized but I am having a heck of a time letting go of things. Maybe what I am asking is the whole state of mind regarding letting go, simplifying and so forth.
    Always love reading your blog.

    Hi Ali,
My question is in photoshop (I currently run PSE6). When you do a digi layout, how do you get text to go around a square element such as a picture or around the edges? You did this in one of your Designer Digitals Templates (#5). While I have that template, I'd like to know how to put text on my own blank LO's. Thanks!

Hi Ali, I'm hoping this isn't a repeat question. I'm wondering if I've gotten into buying more than crafting. Can you have too many stamps? I was thinking of actually getting rid of some because it seems overwhelming. Does that sound crazy?? LOL

    Hey Ali,
Not a question, just a comment. I have noticed Creating Keepsakes has used stock photos including on the cover (if I read it right) from Corbis and Getty. Ths is a dealbreaker with me with CK. There is enough talent in the crafters world of good photography to not rely on stock photos just to make a glossy magazine. Your 2 cents if you are interested in offering it.

Thanks for this opportunity to pick your brain and congrats to you and your family on your new addition. I have heard that you are no longer doing CKU for now which I was bummed about, but completely understand. I loved your album track at CKU Orlando last year. Do you foresee yourself doing any online classes?

    Thanks for doing this!
    1. What is your photo upload/download process? Do you transfer pics weekly and then save to PC, send to photo gallery (like Shutterfly) and then do an EHD save?
How to you manage all the pics? LOM way? (quarters and seasons)
    2. How, when you do custom mini-albums are you able to align the three hole puches exactly? Is there a special tool to do this?
    3. Lastly, how do you keep on top of all of things you do? Working, being a wife and mother, living your life? Do you limit the amount of time you spend on the computer, writing your blog, surfing the net? Do you have a set schedule for these things?
Love your blog! You are so inspiring!
    4. Oops last question: do you think you'll teach your photo+words class on BPS next year? I'd love you to teach online as I live on the East coast!
    Thanks!
