December Daily 2010 | Day Two

Here's a good example of being flexible - the story I'm telling for Day Two actually happened on Day One. No problem, no stress - just telling the stories I want to include.

Page one uses my 6x8 layered template set. I think the circle Santa is from Pretty Little Studio and the little paper clip is 7gypsies. Want to read more about the #2 tag? I've got a post on that here.

The paper on page two is vintage wallpaper.

A couple close-ups:

I trimmed this photo to be the same size as the tag on the other side of the transparency. I added a bit of stitching and word stickers from The Girls Paperie Christmas sticker pad.

Sigh. Love.

I added the text directly onto my photo in Photoshop. I'm cropping the images for this section to 5x5 inches x 6.25 inches. The two fonts (which are also used in the digital templates) are Lucia BT and Sentinel.

JOURNALING : For Simon the visit to see Santa was, in Chris’ words, an awesome combination of “comfort and belief.” He walked right up to the man in the red suit, sat on his lap and told him about the legos he would like to have this year and proceeded to ask him, “Do you have those?” Anna, who is not yet two, was super excited at the prospect of seeing Santa. There were lots of excited “Santa” words earlier in the day and on the way to the mall. Once there though, all it took was one look at the big guy and it was a definite no-go for her. Simon got his photo and we headed to dinner at Mucho Gusto. At dinner Anna kept patting her knees and saying “lap” and then “Santa lap Anna.” We asked her if she wanted to go back and sit on Santa’s lap and she said “yes.” We headed back over to the mall and tried again. It was a “yes” up until the last minute. We got her to wave and say hi and it was all good. Next year sweet girl, next year.

The foundation for this page can be seen here.

thats so a lovely story! My son will be 2 on the 12th of this month. Last year he had no problem with Santa and I have often questioned myself if it will be the same as last year, or will he be a little like you Anna. We can only wait and see :) Love the layout!

    Hallo Ali,

I just love your style. Mine is not like yours but I find my inspiration in yours, how weird is that!
Just a quick question if you are not to busy. Do you use a diary made for scrapbookers like the Memory logbook or any such kind?

Thanks for sharing your story and giving me the courage to share mine.

Thanks for the reminder--it's not important when something happened, what is important is to tell the story. I took some adorable pictures of my daughter in the snow on the first of Dec, but haven't even used them yet because I am waiting for a day where there isn't much going on to take pictures of (or I am so busy I can't seem to take some) to write a page about her at age 3. Living by these rules...just going with the flow and enjoying the process...is what makes this project such a joy!

A lovely story about Santa. For the last 3 years, I've had to appear in the Santa photo with DS, otherwise it would have been a complete no-go ... and I wanted those photos for scrapbooking!!

Anna's visit with Santa is a perfect example of how you told your story that could have been a little disappointing (no - twice - and two trips to the Mall!) but you turned it around in a way that later you'll be able to look back on it and smile and say, "Remember when..."

Wow! That black & white of Anna is beautiful! And Simon is all grown! I wouldn't have thought to write a story about my kids 'not' making it to Santa's lap! Love these pages + inspiration!

I'm wondering how you're printing the 6x8 and 5.5x6.25 sizes of your photos...are you printing on 8x10 and then trimming? I have convinced two of my neighbors to create Dailys this year and we can hardly contain our enthusiasm...

I print them individually on an 8.5x11 here at home and trim them out.

That picture of Anna is precious, you always get the sweetest pictures of your kids. Love the one of them hand in hand though too, she looks tall already. My kids always waved to Santa the first couple years except Sam who gave him a high five then would stand beside him but NOT ON HIS LAP he would say. It's a relieve to see you use pictures from another day also. Happy Friday and weekend.

Love the tag you made of Simon on Santa's lap. The story you told about Anna brought back memories of my grand daughter and the Easter bunny! Have a great Friday!

My little guy is 5, and last night was his first time to sit on Santa's lap. He was so proud of himself. Every other year he would say, "Maybe next year." I didn't push it - some of those Santas scared me too!
