One Little Word 2012

Poster print via Poster Inspired.

My word for 2012 is up.

It came to me one day last month while I was working in the kitchen and the kids were watching the movie Up. My initial connection to the word stems from the part towards the end where the old man is looking at the scrapbook his wife made and a note she wrote to him at the end which says something along the lines of "Thanks for the adventure. Now go have a new one." (Found the clip here.)

That's the attitude I'd like to be working towards and embracing in 2012 - giving thanks for the things that were great about my marriage and then moving forward and welcoming whatever is coming next.

Up | ready, eager, open, awake, into a happy mood

There were so many words I could have chosen for what I want for myself in 2012. This one simply feels like a good starting place. I will also be carrying three of my past words close to my heart again in 2012: light, story, and peace.

Are you considering selecting a word for yourself (or letting one find you)? There's no right or wrong. The main thing to remember is that this is your word. It's not for your child, parent, partner, spouse, sister, etc.

And what do you do with this one little word?

You live with it. You invite it into you life. You let it speak to you. You might even follow where it leads. There are so many possibilities.

I'd love to read what word you've chosen or are considering for 2012. In the comments feel free to simply leave your word as your comment or write a bit about why you are choosing this word. In a couple days I'll combine all the words into a single post - super inspiring to see all the words in one place.

In a couple of days I'll post a compilation of the words as an inspirational reminder to us all.

If you’re new to the concept of One Little Word, you can read some of my previous posts here: 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Above is an image of all my prompts from my album that I made for my One Little Word class at Big Picture in 2011.

Registration is open for 2012 and you're invited to join the journey.

Each month you'll receive a prompt with a simple creative, writing, or photography project and a gentle reminder to check back in with your word. By the end of the year you'll have compiled the contents of an 8.5x11 album that documents, defines, celebrates and generally makes your word more visible. Workshop materials include printable elements, full-color PDF handouts, and video presentations.

People have been asking me if you have to be a scrapbooker for this class. My answer is no. Even though we are making an album it's really more of a journaling/record keeping/thinking/exploring project. I'm excited to see how people interpret the prompts and make them meaningful for their own lives.

This is not complicated and it's not time-consuming. It's simply a way we can come together to share our experience with our words throughout the course of the year.

The One Little Word classroom opens on January 1, 2012.

Enjoy - to take delight in; to experience with pleasure

I've been kicking around a few words for 2012. I have quite a lot ahead of me in the next 12 months. I'll be getting married in May, moving into our first house in Aug/Sept, exploring my career options...and those are only the things I know about. I thought about using Change, then contemplated Calm. Then it hit me...what I want to do most is ENJOY the change, the busyness, the craziness. Yes, we have a lot of change ahead of us in 2012. I want to make sure I take the time to enjoy it and don't just let it pass me by.

I've already signed up, yet so many words are still swimming in my head: now, celebrate, mindful, stretch, create, giggle... I hope one chooses me soon.

I have choosen the word - ORGANIZE.

I have to do this for so many things, I might as well have it constantly in view and on my mind so I will work with the word and make it happen!! I love this idea and I am going to live with it for the year, and beyond!!!

The word that came to me or found me is "remember". So for 2012, I pray that my olw will cause me to remember many important things such as:
remember to be intentional and purposeful; remember God's promises and read His promises often; remember that God is always faithful and trustworthy; remember to cherish relationships (even when my teens are challenging me); remember to choose joy; remember that I can do all things through Christ on His strength not mine (so I can take risks and step out of my comfort zone); remember to be creative everyday (art for my soul); remember the joy of serving others rather than desiring to be served; and so on. I am super excited about this class!

    Grow.

I am turning 40 in 2012. And for this coming year, I want to "grow" in so many ways, so many directions. Spiritually, physically (in strength), mentally, simply....grow.

My word for this year is Stretch. For me, I want to work on my physical flexibility by stretching my muscles and I want to push myself to try to do things beyond my comfort zone.

    Move.

It was actually my word for 2011 and it's going to be my word again for 2012. I made progress on one front this year with my word, but I feel pretty strongly that I'm supposed to stick with this word for the coming year. Last year I registered for the One Little Word class, but only listened to the videos and didn't complete any of the prompts. I signed up for the class again and I'm really looking forward documenting my year through my word.

Funny thing...my husband, who is incredibly supportive, asked me last week if we could do a word together (as a couple)...he wanted to do "Reconnect"...as a couple; with family and friends who've been put on the sidelines while we've been too busy to be a part of their lives; with our hobbies. Love that he is wanting to do this.

My heart still wanted to have my very own word and have been praying, thinking, etc. Got a Office Depot flyer and there it was: Revitalize...begin again and breathe new life into ME. I am unemployed, now have an empty nest, and have spent the last years taking care of everyone but me...so I am excited to have two words and a husband who is wanting to live this with me!

In a moment of inspiration my one little word has just come to me .... WELL . There are so many meanings from such a simple world ... all will be well, well as in health for which I am eternally grateful and well as in depths from which to find courage and fortitude and also just plain well ! as an exclamation !
Yes , very pleased with my choice !
