AE | The Weekend Lens

We spent the weekend at one of our favorite places on the Oregon coast with my parents.

On both Saturday and Sunday we spent a couple hours actually down on the beach. We don't always go down there, usually it depends on the weather. This weekend was a mix of sun and clouds and mist.

Don't be fooled by these photos or the kids in the water. It was about 60 degrees tops and the water is cold.

One of the overwhelming themes was just how much Simon loves being at the beach.

He's so free there. To explore. To run. To play.

There's more room to give him room.

He's so happy there.

He's been going to this same beach for his entire life and it's such a huge part of his story, along with so much time spent with my Mom and Dad.

I love that Anna's getting to experience it (and enjoy it) now too.

Love this shot. I love it because it shows the whole scene.

On Sunday it was a bit sunnier:

Anna wore some wings down to the beach that made for fun photos.

A person who frequents the beach likes to stack rocks like this set. And talk about a moment of intense blue sky.

I need to do a layout or minibook that shows photos of Simon on this beach throughout his life so far.

So many adventures.

Photos taken by both me and my Mom. I shot only with my iphone this time.

Love the one of you carrying Anna and the one of the two of them lying in the sand nose-to-nose. Cheers, Ali!

For some reason I'm really drawn to the Oregon coast, I've never been but I could picture myself living there. Being from northern Alberta snowbirds go south for the winter to Arizona tupically but I could see living in Oregon. One day I'll visit there and see if I love it as much as I think I will.

How do you print your photos from your iphone? Or do you print them? This is something I normally send via email them print from my home printer but if there is a easier way to print directly from the phone I would love that!!!

    Great photos!! Happy Weekend!

I definitely print them - use them just about every week in Project Life. I use Photo Stream so they auto-upload into Aperture when I take them with my phone (can do that to iPhoto too). I know you can print via Postal Pix if you use Instagram.

I can't get over how tall Simon is growing!

Three summers ago we traveled up the Oregon coast on our motorcycles . . . it was always cool & misty. How brave the kids are to go into the water! Brrrrr!

Ali, my family has owned a beach near Santa Barbara for over 85 years and we have many extended-family memories (and photos!) from those many years. It is an intrinsic part of our family! For Mother's Day/Father's Day I made a Shutterfly book of an assortment of those photos (I only used digital ones, so they were mostly post-2002) for my parents, who are both in their 80s and who built the house that we all use (twice--it burned down once). I used a very clean CathyZ-ish design, just random photos. It turned out beautifully and my parents LOVE it. When you talked about making a minibook of photos of Simon at the beach, I thought of my project. You might want to make a photobook for your parents too!

Oh, and now that my brothers and my married kids have seen my book, they all want copies too--easy to do! Love your photos--we are flying to Seattle on Thursday and will be driving down the Oregon coast in a little over a week--can't wait!

I love seeing you guys at the beach! My boys (4 & 6) love love love the beach, too, & have grown up there. There's a little beach right near where we live so we're there almost daily. There's something about salt air & saltwater. I do love seeing the contrast of "our" beach experience & yours! Air temps here are in the low 90's & the water temps are in the mid 80's! No down vests here--maybe for a week in January! :)

Ali . . . after seeing the photos of Simon, I happened to be on Pinterest and saw this photo. Thought perhaps you could make a larger version of this costume for him for halloween . . . it's lh6.ggpht.com - a lego boy . . .

We hit Nye beach the end of last week and it was wonderful! It was Aud's (3 years) first time getting to actually play on the shore and she loved it!
Wednesday was nice but we got driven off the beach Thursday by rain. Gotta love June in Oregon!
We'll have to check out your beach next. It looks like a good one for kids. :)

Ali, I've been out of touch for a while and it's good to see these photos. That beach is gorgeous and I can't believe how tall Simon is getting. Quite a young man and he obviously loves the beach!

Love seeing Cape Arago! I grew up in North Bend and Sunset Beach was a favorite of ours for swimming, while Horsfall was the place to go to get away from people, wander the beach and collect sand dollars. Living in Portland, my kids cherish our annual trips to Cannon Beach (my 11 yr old daugther calls it "my beach") Just spending time sitting listening to the waves and being near the ocean gives me a very peaceful feeling that I know my kids share. Wishing we were there today for the 80 degree weather today instead of here for 100!
