Rummage.
One of my favorite words: rummage. As in rummage sale.
After I took Simon to school yesterday morning I noticed a sign...Rummage Sale 9am. Be still my beating heart. I zoomed home. Said, "Mom. Rummage Sale 9am." The time was 8:50am. Always a willing participant and co-rummager, she grabbed her coat and we were headed towards our destiny.
This particular Rummage Sale was at a church. Those are always goodies. We walked in and I could feel it was going to be fruitful. And what to my wondering eyes should appear?
Remember this drawing? My new dream for my studio?
A chest of drawers. With a $7.50 price tag. No joke. No kidding. $7.50.
I was telling the people there that I loved them.
It is old. It has character. Nicks and scratches and dings. Someone used to put things in there. Someone built it. It is damn cool.
Found a few other treasures: a wood lazy susan-thing that is now sitting on my table, four very large (like Costco size) glass jars at $.75 a piece - now holding ribbon of course, and a couple other things. Oh yea, and three FREE little goodies: a bottle opener (classic keyhole shape), a cheese cutter with a very taught wire, and a "thing" that creates the cool edge on pies - also cool to use in stamping.
Grand total for this rummage adventure: $14.00.
And here, my friends, is the beginning of my dream studio:
My plan is to use this to house things such as my mounted stamps and create drawers for different manufacturers. I am always trying to find a better way to organize my stuff. And simplify as much is possible for someone who creates.
My goal is to get rid of any plastic containers I have and move to an "all-oldie-&-goodie" system of containment and organization. This has been a slow process. But fun. Picking up things here and there. I have lots of cool wire things - like the container you see here. Found that for free last summer at an estate sale out in the country.
And of course, we will be moving here soon when the house sells. Then the process will begin again of finding a home with a space for me and all my stuff. My treasures.
LOVE it. $7.50? Are you kidding me?! Do the drawers have actual bottoms? lol. What an awesome find. Dream studio, indeed. :)

Love this....
i was just telling Dan how much you dug the card file in our basement...he's like, it would probably cost a lot to ship it to her.
Which means its in the realm of possibility, dude.

I, too, love garage sales. I dragged (drug?) my kids out this morning to garages sales in our town. +2 degrees Celsius and snowing, and we're going to garage sales. At least we took the van, normally we take our bikes! What are we looking for? Rescue Heroes. Especially female ones, so my daughter will know that she can be anything she wants, and my boys will respect women as well as men. The chest of drawers is very nice. I wouldn't have room for anything like that. I hope your new house will have all the space you need. :)

Okay. Tell my why I'm depressed now about my brand-spankin' new pottery-barn desk that just arrived 3 days ago, and brand-spankin' new cropper-hopper white modular storage system for my *studio-closet*. You've ruined my day Ali. I want a used, warm, tattered, *loved* $7.50 chest of drawers.
I'm not telling Don. He'll poop a brick after spending all this money.
Ugh.

Cool find! I love church rummage sales as well. Have you checked out Target's dollar spot lately? They have some cool wire baskets there. They are suppose to be for the bathroom, but I have other things in mind for them (stamps, etc).

I've never seen that sketch, but it's too funny b/c I've started my own collection of the EXACT same idea! I got a dresser that was my mother's when she was growing up and am working to get it usable with the purpose of storing my mounted stamps and any other scrapbook supplies that might fit. I'm starting to think our connection through 2Ps is kismet - too many similarities to think otherwise. Even funnier that so many others feel the same thing! ;o)

Aah, a girl after my own heart!! I LOVE rummages!!! My mom and aunt used to drag me and my cousin out every Thursday and Friday in the summer and hit every rummage sale in the area!! At first I hated it, but then I got into it as much as they did!!! My pulse still quickens at the sight!! Love, love, love the chest of drawers idea. Makes me wonder why my old dresser is sitting empty in the basement. Hmmmmm . . . . Thanks for the inspiration!!
