The { A } List.

Oh man, I have encountered so many cool things lately! It has been a good last few weeks.

First off, questions about my new computer (no photo yet Cath). It is a G5 and HOLY COW it is so freakin fast. I don't think they are offering the G5's with the intel chip yet (you can get it in the iMac and the new MacBook). In the case of my computer I am happy to not be right on the cutting edge - there are always so many things that need to be worked out and cleaned up on a first release. I used Photoshop this morning and everything was instantaneous. No waiting for it to save or complete actions. I could not be any happier. I also got a tablet for my computer - the one recommended by Rhonna - looking forward to playing with that as well.

And on to the list:

• There is a brand new shopping complex in Lake Oswego (south of Portland) called Bridgeport Village. It is divine (and expensive). Lots of very cool stores there. I stopped to check out a paper store and ended up finding all sorts of cool stores.

• One of the stores I had the pleasure of experiencing is LUCY. Super comfortable exercise/yoga/sports casual clothes. The best thing? They have tops in lengths. This is huge for me. So many tops are just too short. These pants are so, so wonderful. Makes me want to do yoga. Happy pants.

• The paper/gift/stationary store I checked out is Oblation Papers & Press. It was a happy, happy store. Cool sheets of printed papers and lots of cool examples of letter press work they have done on their press in the Pearl. You will probably see some of those papers on layouts soon. Once again, makes me want to move to Portland. There are so many inspiring, wonderful, freakin cool things to experience up there.

• A book that I have been waiting so very long for was finally released at the beginning of this month. Alphabetica by mixed media artist Lynne Perrella is totally inspiring and visually exciting and makes you want to stay up all night to soak it all up. Basically it is the visual story of alphabet circle journals and the resulting awesome books. You know I love alphabets. I am happy.

It's About Time stamp set from Stampin' Up (on page 10 & 11 in the catalog). Seriously cool. Love the quote stamp that comes with it as well.

• This totally cool artist: Janeen Koconis who creates a line of word + image art goodies called KOCO NY. Cool little article here. If anyone can find out more about this artist can you let me know.

Brokeback Mountain. Have you seen this yet? You should. It is a powerful film. It hits at the heart of all of our humanity. It is haunting. It is beautiful. It is sad. It is life. See it.

Ok -
I have to get back to work. Finishing up a column today, packing up stuff to send down to CA for classes this weekend, and putting all my content into my Week In The Life album. Just a few things to do LOL.

Happy Tuesday!

The first thing to catch my eye was Lake Oswego. Is that where you live? My grandparents used to live there and I lived in Portland for a little while.
I also want to get Alphabetica and see Brokeback Mountain. Hope to do both soon!

just got Alphetbetica from Barnes & Noble today, can't wait for the kidlets to be in bed so I can drool over every design. Re: Portland, oh my gosh! are there some wonderful shops there. full of icons, cigar boxes, and other recyclable treasures. get there as often as you can. I live in Olympia, WA so only get there 1-2x a year, but love every minute of it.
Re: the 'Love your life' scan you had on today's post....my 4 year old daughter asked for a print out of it to hang on her wall. She loves the "river" dress. I read her the words....and she said, "love your life with shoes and a dress...I like that, Mama!" just thought you'd like to know.
    job well done.

Ali, I was in your album track "A Week in the Life" last August at CKU Provo. I was a slowpoke and only finished the cover, opening page, and part of "Monday" while there. When I got home, I finished "Monday" and then put the album away because I had a ton of gifts to make for the holidays. Well, the holidays passed and about a week ago, I pulled out the album and seriously got to work on it. About 10 minutes ago I put the last picture in the last slot on the closing page. I want to sincerely thank you for creating such an incredible project! I think this is probably the most introspective thing I have done in my life - I have 3 grown children, so it's been a "long" life. I am sure that 20 years from now, this will be THE album that will most closely reflect who I am. Thank You!!!!

Ali, I don't know if someone has told you this already, but Lucy does warehouse sales in Portland sometimes. I've never been to one but my friend got me an awesome top from one. I pursued Bridgeport for Christmas shopping (container store, yum!), but man, it is so NOT designed for Oregon, I about had all my parcels ripped from my hands with the rain and wind leaping from store to store. An outdoor mall in Oregon? Um, someone's not thinking things through there. Have tons of fun with your new G5 and make sure they gave you iLife 06, it came out last week at Mac World.

I love your blog and have taken several of your classes which I totally loved. To put it short I am a big fan. But I am troubled by your discription of Brokeback Mountain. hauntingly beautiful? real life? It seemed far from real life and closer to immoral to me. Cheeting on your family and kids with your gay lover? Just doesnt seem beautiful to me. Just my opinion.

Always LOVE your recommendations and lists, Ali! And I love immoral movies, so I'll be checking that one out for sure. ;) Oblation looks fabulous, too. Man, I want to live in Oregon. :D

I loved Brokeback Mountain. It gives you such a different perspective on love. Never saw a movie quite like it. I little uncomfortable in parts but it doesn't deflect from the movie. I'm sure it's not a movie for everyone though. I know some people won't get past the gay men. Now that's shameful. Anyway, just wanted to say I agree.

Hello, I was just surfing the web and came across this website. I noticed that several people liked KOCO cards, and their creator Janeen Koconis. I am actually Janeen's nephew, so if you would like to know anything more about her, let me know. I know a lot.
