Anna Quindlen quote.

I had a couple requests to repost this Anna Quindlen quote that I had on the side bar over to the left this past week. Here you go - it is such a good one:

...but the biggest mistake I made is the one that most of us make while doing this. I did not live in the moment enough. This is particularly clear now that the moment is gone, captured only in photographs. There is one picture of the three on them sitting in the grass on a quilt in the shadow of the swing set on a summer day, ages 6, 4, and 1. And I wish I could remember what we ate, and what we talked about, and how they sounded, and how they looked when they slept that night. I wish I had not been in a hurry to get on to the next things: dinner, bath, book, bed. I wish I had treasured the doing a little more and the getting it done a little less.

You can read more of her words - I especially love some of her commencement address: Mount Holyoke, Villanova (this is the one where she talks about "getting a life"), Colgate, and Barnard.

Enjoy and Happy Saturday.

I think, when I have my own family, I'll remember to live this way. Until then, I feel it's an indulgence if I do this for myself.

Hi Ali (and others) has anyone seen this? http://www.myamericaathome.com/index.php I got it in an email from IKEA (thank goodness one of my favorite stores recently opened in Portland). I'm on their mailing list (IKEA) and think this sounds like an interesting look at our lives.

    Hello:
I caught this quote awhile back on your site and it said so much to me. I sit here everyday consumed with "how to get more done in less time" surrounded by time management tools and all it resulted in (it seems like!) is a blur for the last 20 years. the quote made me sorrowful that I had missed so much along the way with two kids growing up (now 23 and 17) but also helped me see that I could start anew and slow down. i copied off the quote and made a scrapbook page with baby photos and put it smack dab in the middle of my current scrapbooks...to remind me. 'look how the time has flown by'.
