Week In The Life : Bringing It All Together • The Photos, Part Two

IMG_1044

This was the scene late last week after my photos arrived in the mail from scrapbookpictures.com.

It's always so cool to have photos in hand. I really like how the 8.5x11 photo collage pages turned out and I decided not to cut them out and adhere them to cardstock. Originally I thought I would do that so that the papers "matched" but when it came down to it that was going to take me a whole lot longer and I just didn't want to spend the time doing that when it looked perfectly fine as it was. All I ended up doing was adhering the pattern paper strips and the tabs and calling it good for this portion of the album.

If you are paying really close attention you might notice that the long strip and the short strip of pattern paper are switched (long first vs. short piece first) in comparison with the layered template package. I happened to just dive right in adhering the strips and this is what I ended up with.

Here's a look at each of the photo pages (still working on the baseball card page protectors):

Supplies used can be found in this post.

Tomorrow I hope to have the whole album complete including a cover page, the baseball card page protector photos and the rest of my journaling.

Thank you to those of you who have been emailing me images of your project. I'm looking forward to showing other examples later this week. Feel free to send me some samples of your album at ali@aliedwardsdesign.com. Please put Week In The Life Example in the subject line.

Hi Jackie - absolutely! I have a free layered template download for just this purpose available here: http://www.aliedwards.com/2010/01/scrapbooking-with-your-computer-creating-layouts-with-layered-templates-.html

Hi Juanita - it is going to depend on your printer. Some printers have the ability to print "borderless" which is the option you want to choose to have the photos go all the way to the edge.

Hi Dawn - I am a big fan of square punches. Maybe that would help?

Hi Gina - for the shot of us playing out our favorite scene in Fantastic Mr. Fox...at first we were just all doing it (no camera in sight). Then Chris or I (likely me) decided to grab the camera, set it up on the counter with the timer set, and play the growling game again.

Hi Ali, didn't play along but followed the progress with interest. Do you think this format would adapt to a holiday book? I never know what to do with all the photos we take - usually not printed out! And the digi book idea is my main interest (multiple copies for the grandparents!). Do both sizes of the templates translate into an online book?
Many thanks for the continuing inspiration.

Thanks Ali, that's how I usually do a collage layout. This time though because of so many pictures being taken everyday I just went with it and didn't think on the size, zooming etc. I did my baseball protectors first then went to what was left to do the collage pages and there's not much there. I might order some new photos, or just skip this portion even though it looked cool on yours, just put it together a different way meaning not a collage. Thanks for the help.

Hi, Ali! These are just so beautiful and magical! Thanks so much for sharing them!
Now I understand what they mean when they say a photo beats a thousand words. I can just imagine the stories these photos mean to you and your family. And can definitely imagine them treasuring these in the future.
Thanks so much for always being such an inspiration. =)
    *hugs*

Usually I don't take time to post comments, however this project has been such an inspiration! My entire family really got really excited and involved in the project with me, which made it easier to commit to the entire week. Also, the video tutorials that you posted were so helpful that I was able to create my album digitally using the week in the life templates-my very first digital project! I think completing the project digitally made it do-able for me because it saved so much time. Thank you so very much for the time you spent organizing this project, I would not have been able to complete it without the inspiration you provided.

Now that I have seen the result, I MUST do this, I'm going to get my best scrapping buddy to do it along with me next week.

I am asking this question again as you missed it on a previous post, tar :)
I have had 8.5 x 11 pages printed before and wasn't really happy with the colour and they were quite dark so I am nervous to have them posted out to Australia again.
Do you select any of the colour/processing options available where you got your pictures printed? ie none, computer or hand checked? I was wondering if it was because I selected no colour correction as to why I wasn't thrilled.
    thanks

    Hi Ali,
I am wondering what you used to trim/crop your 5x7 photo collages. I printed mine in a similar way & am cutting them with a craft knife & ruler but am unhappy with this method (slow & mostly not a clean cut - even when I changed the blade). They are all trimmed now & ready for my album just as they are (which is perfectly fine) but I'd love a better way for next time.
    Thanks, Karyn

Ali - Happy Mother's Day. I posted an earlier comment, but wanted to say that I went through and read your posts last night and am very inspired to try this. I just feel that it's tough to do without a family and how would I be able to take pictures at my office, unless I did it after hours. Feeling a bit overwhelmed but willing to try it.
