Found : Dear Simon

Earlier this week Chris shared this note with me that he had written to Simon when they were on a recent camping adventure. He wrote it by the light of his headlamp in our tent.

There's so many things I love about this letter.

I love that he was inspired enough and touched enough by this experience with Simon to document it with words. I love that he actually wrote it all out by the light of the headlamp, making those thoughts reality rather than just keeping them close to his heart. I love that he repeated the same phrase at the end of each paragraph/thought. I love that he included some of the details of the adventure along with his feelings for Simon. I love that he drew a smiley face at the end of one of his sentences.

Chris, you are a really great Dad. We love you so, so much.

This treasure is going into an 8.5x11 page protector in our 365/Project Life album.

My husband lost his father very recently to cancer, and this will be the very first Father's Day of his life that won't be spent with his dad. I know he would give anything to have a letter like that from his dad right now. I am hoping that your post will encourage my husband to write a letter to our son, too. Thanks, Ali.

I got so sentimental over this. Partly because of the sweetness that it is, and partly because I have a note from my dad that I cherish. It's written on scrap paper he found in my house when they were visiting once. Just to say he was glad they were here and that he loves me.
It's the only paper I have with dad's handwriting... Mom signs the birthday cards. It's something I didn't know was missing until I held it in my hands... My dad's words in his writing. Simon is a lucky boy.

I have tears in my eyes after reading that. If only all dads would take the time to write a letter like that to their children. If only a lot more kids really knew that their dad loved them. I think the world would be a whole lot different. Thanks for sharing Ali. Very neat!

I read your blog regularly, and I don't usually comment. But this deserved a comment. WOW. I don't know your family personally, but I was tearing up. :-) What a great thing Chris did for, not just Simon, but the family. What a treasure. Even in his own handwriting! how precious.
    Thanks for sharing.
