The Weekend Lens
Weekends are a favorite time of mine to take pictures.
It's something about the pace. Something about having the camera easily accessible. Something about keeping my eyes open while still being present in the moments of the day.
Saturday was slow and calm. Low on technology and high on family time.
After breakfast lego time.
A lot of playing happens at this table. I also love that the plate holding both a waffle and a pancake made it into the shot. Weekend mornings usually include at least one of those - this is the first time Chris has made both at the same time.
Anna's getting into playing with the legos too. Day by day she's less inclined to just rip the heads off the "guys" as she calls them. This weekend she spent a bunch of time playing with a car and a bus - Ginny Weasley from Harry Potter was her "guy" of choice to drive both the car and the bus.
We didn't end up embarking on any stop animation filming this weekend.
Hello lovely texture.
A self-portrait right before heading out on my first-ever 5-mile run. It was awesome.
Stories.
A personal favorite. They were singing "I have a little pony his name is Macaroni."
On Sunday morning I went outside to hang a bird feeder we got on Saturday. I looked down and saw this single bloom.
And then I started to look around a bit to see what was actually happening in our yard. Since this is our first winter in this house I'm even more excited to see what might be coming.
It's been three weeks since I've had a cup of coffee. Crazy.
I stopped just because it didn't sound good anymore. I anticipate I'll have it again but right now I'm not missing it.
Chris brought some loose leaf tea back with him from China and I've been either drinking that or having hot water with lemon in the morning (which I really love the most).
Wishing you a wonderful week. We're heading to the Capitol today for Opening Day of the legislature and later on we'll be watching the Oregon Ducks in the BCS Championship college football game.
this weekend consisted of a run to the gallery and studio space,
taking gabe back to school and some down time watching my favorite
show...modern family. i really have to get my camera's back out. i have missed them.
happy monday miss!

I love peaking into your daily life. We're so fortunate that you share so many pieces with us. I usually leave my camera silent on the weekends. Based on your captures, I'm missing a lot by doing that. Thanks for the inspiration (as always).

Love reading your blog! I love the pic of your little girl playing with Legos. It reminds me of when I was a kid and I used to play with my older brother's Heman action figures. LOL.

I love all of these shots in different ways. Anna's teeny little body in those uber cute pyjamas--TOO CUTE! I just want to tickle her lol (I do the same to my 2 babies too lol).
I LOVE that shot of Chris and Anna reading, but my fave is the 2 of them on the floor. By the way, I'm super jealous of how clean your floor is haha!
PS--you look a little too amazing in every photo I see of you...stop taking photos of yourself would you!! (just kidding :))

This may seem odd, however I have been thinking about your family this weekend because of the Arizona situation. Love and safety to you and your family. We all appreciate our elected officials and need them to stay strong. Jill B.

Ali,
Always love the little glimpse into everyday life you give us.
I too, have "given up" coffee (none since Sept 18). I feel so much better without it, but do miss it!
Wanted to tell you about a little project - I didn't do the December Daily, but did prep a travel journal for our Christmas Vacation. Turned out "awesome" thanks for the inspiration!

Ali, you have a beautiful family!
Also, could you post that roasted beets recipe you mentionned on Twitter? The link doesn't work because I'm not in that person's friend list.
Thanks and have a great day!
I used this recipe just to see how long to roast the beets: http://www.wholeliving.com/recipe/lentils-with-ginger-golden-beets-and-herbs?backto=true&backtourl=/photogallery/action-plan-week-1-recipes#slide_3

I love the photos Ali and how you've captured those little glimpses of life.
How are you finding your Selphy printer? Are you pleased with the quality of the prints? I will soon need to upgrade my picturemate so would love to know your opinion on the Selphy. Thanks.
Thanks. I'll look forward to hearing a bit more about it in due course
So far it seems ok - not great but ok. I need to try it out a bit more -

Okay, here's something a little freaky. On that texture photo? I totally see a man, kind of looking down. On the left side. Do you see it?
I can't believe you have blooms already! So enjoyed all your photos - they're always great.
It was just that single one - hiding behind a post :).

Sorry, we are huge coffee drinkers, for a long time!! My husband is 84+ and I am 71. Your photos are great as always. Congratulations on the 5 mile run. My goal is to be consistant about walking on the treadmill. Have a great week.

Sorry Ali but WAR EAGLE!!! Love my Auburn Tigers... but I still am a fan of yours too. :)
I posted this to someone in the comments above - I had no idea what that meant :). Had to look it up to figure out what you guys were talking about. Both Chris and I went to Oregon State but we live here in Eugene - gotta cheer for our hometown team in a game as big as this.

Just another reason why the "other side of the mountain" rocks compared to us. We're here in the cold Central area... great for winter sports, but yucky for gardening.

Ali, what a wonderful weekend sequence. I love your self portrait - your face is a picture of good health and happiness. Congrats on your 5 mile run!
You are inspiring as ever :)

I've haven't drank any coffee since childhood. Seems as if there's a world out there I don't know. If you can get hold of any South African Rooibos tea, give it a try. I love it and its caffein free.

Ahhh...5 miles. Good for you. I love 5 miles. 3 is my standard because I get bored. When training for long distance events, though, 5 miles is the hardest to work up to for me. After that, you feel you can conquer the world...or 8.1 more miles at least. Dang. Now I've 'discovered' I should do another mini. Thanks Ali. Ugh.

It looks like a perfect weekend. I love those filled with time together, even if we're each doing our own thing and then coming together throughout the day :).
And yea for a 5mil run!!
Are you planning to do the Shamrock Run in Portland this March? I drove over last year for it (and to cheer my bestie on since it was her first 5K run) and LOVED it. Such a great energy and just fun race. They have a 5K, 8K and 15K. I'd love to do the 15K, but not sure I'll be ready ... so my back up plan is the 8K (which is about 5mil ... so you could SO do it!!).
Happy Running!
