Project Life 2012 | Week Three

Welcome to Project Life 2012 | Week Three.

It's really hard to beat having a pile of just-printed photos.

My routine these last few weeks has been to print all my photos on Monday (my weeks go Monday to Sunday). I look back over the photos taken in the past week and hit print on whichever ones I like best (or whichever ones catch my attention).

Some of these in the photo above didn't end up making it into my spread this week. I'm thinking I'll just add them to next week.

Here's a look at Week Three:

Being a birthday week I expected to have at least one insert to accommodate the number of photos. I ended up with two as you will see below.

I have to say that I'm really loving the Clementine journal cards. I feel like there is more space to write compared with last year (and I feel like I'm taking advantage of that so far).

We began our week with a dusting of snow (and that was it - just a dusting). On the top right photo I added a Hello Winter Brushes & Stamps ("heart snow") by cutting it out with the Silhouette and then stapling it with the Tiny Attacher. On the bottom left photo I added some word art from my Sibling Brushes & Stamps. The photo of me and the big white balloon was a self-portrait for the February One Little Word prompt.

I also included one Instax Mini photo out of front door into the snow.

The first insert for this week uses the Design G Page Protectors. I decided to use this entire insert for things related to Simon's birthday.

On the kraft piece of paper are the names of the kids Simon invited - he and Chris worked on the invitations together.

I used my Silhouette for two more things. The January frame is from the Hello Life Boxes Vol.2 package and the number 10 card is from my 3x4 Rounded Number Corner Cards package. Behind the #10 card I added a piece of Hambly Studios 12x12 Overlay Moustaches.

That "big day" date stamp is part of the new Dear Lizzy line from American Crafts (love it).

On the back I included a pirate napkin from the party. On top of the napkin I added Moss Notched Corners Labels from Paper Source and journaled about the party right on top.

I blurred the faces of the kids faces who attended the party.

The second insert is a We R Memory Keepers 8.5x11. Love this treasure hunt that Chris came up with - especially the part about the notorious pirate George.

On the back of this second insert I included the cards he received and a copy of the invitation.

After all that I really love how this page is just a bunch of words and photos. Photos + journal cards + a few little labels to identify photos. Love how this can be anything you want it to be.

Love your week. It's so fun isn't it - this PL thing. I'm on year 2 but last year I did it differently. Loving including all bits of life in this year's album. Simon's party looks like it was fantastic! I still remember the Lego's from last year.

More great pages Ali! I really love the special inserts for Simon. He shares my sister's birth date and she was so special to me. Some of my favourite parts of your pages are the way you incorporate the Silhouette so seamlessly into the days. Love it!

I really enjoy seeing your PL layouts each week! I also just wanted to say I think it's great that you reply to many of your comments, especially the ones where people have questions about something. Thanks Ali!

i love it! i'm making a specific effort myself to document the winter season and what it looks like on a daily basis. i live in southern california so we tend to be pretty bi-polar over here: rain on a monday, fog on a tuesday and by Friday we expect 80 degree weather. your album inspires me so much Ali! love it!

Ali - can you tell me what type of printer you use to print your photos at home? I not happy with printing them at the local stores as the result just aren't as nice...suggestions?

I use an Epson Stylus R2000 - it's linked above under the supply section. Very happy with it.

    Ali,
    such an inspiration, as always...
When do you put your photos in the protectors? When I read the instructions that come with the photo paper it always tells to wait for 24 hours so the photos can dry...

I definitely don't wait that long - sometimes 1/2 hour sometimes less (no waiting).

Totally random, but did you write the "I <3 when Anna laughs..." card? Doesn't look like your writing. Just curious - it brings up a bit of inspiration though, the idea of having others write sentiments down to add to my PL project.

What a great layout, I love the journal card where you used thick red marker - I think I will consider using different coloured markers too :)

    Dear Ali,

Your PL posts are always so awe-inspiring.. :)
Anyway, this is my 2 nd year doing PL and I love it. I'm actually following in your footseps this year and doing it weekly and also posting them on my blog as I go. So, here's my question for you: How do you take pictures of your pages wihtout the "plastic blur" as I like to call it? Any advice is truly appreciated. :)

    Thanks a bunch!

Hi Ali... I wondered if you could help?
I finally got my PL page protectors (I live in Europe) only to discover that they were the wrong size! What I thought was a 3x4 journaling card pocket turned out to be a 4x4 pocket. At the moment I am stuck with what I have... 50 page protectos with 6x8 and 4x4 slots; whole bunch of 3x4 journaling cards and 10-15 12x12 papers...
I was planning to create a hybrid PL this year...
Alsi, do you have any ideas how I can use the 4x4 pockets? how to journal? how to change the whole layout concept of a PL album to accommodate 4x4 sized pockets? I am so so so angry and disappointed and frustrated... I so was waiting for the protectors to arrive!:-(

    Wow oh wow Ali,
I was inspired by you to start this project. I can not lie and say I am not obsessed with project life and your weekly inspiration. I have also decided since my husband works out of town for weeks on end in the oil field I would make him his own version of project life while your gone. Things we do while he is out of town. Something for him to reflect on when he heads back each week. Thank for all you do Ali

Hey, Ali! Good to read/ learn on your blog. First time popping in since the chocolate swap months and months ago. No taste here from postal yet. Your weekly journaling provides intent for children to notice what is happening around them not just mold in a couch clump. Parents can be so much more aware of verbal and body language interactions. What social workers could do with this application! Continue to do well, mt23stamperKeep Looking UP!
