Project Life® 2013 | Week Forty-Two

AE_PL2013_WK42_closeup

Welcome to Project Life® 2013 | Week Forty-Two (October 14th through October 20th).

A couple of questions for you today:

  • Do you guys like seeing these catch-up weeks?

  • Does it matter to you that they aren't from last week?

  • Is there anything specific you'd like to know about my process or approach to Project Life®?

Mainly I want to get a sense if you care when the spreads come from? I've been keeping up with 2014 but haven't shared them yet (except my Title Page and Week Three) because I feel like I want to get 2013 out of the way first.

Here's a look at Week 42:

When I looked back through my 2011 and 2012 Project Life® albums one of the things I love seeing are the bits of life: receipts, drawings, tags, etc. I seem to have gotten away from that a bit in 2013 and I'd like to make that happen again more in 2014.

I've now got a supply of 8.5 inch x 11 inch page protectors back on hand to use as inserts to help with that process.

This week I included the kids school photos. On top of the two of them together I added a white label sticker from Kelly Purkey/Simon Says Stamp and wrote their grade on each side.

Heart Fall is from this set of word art: Fall Boxes

Heart This is a printable card from this set: Hello Fall

And one of those things I keep using are Heidi's handwritten glitter word stickers. Love those things. I used them on the page below as well.

I'm still doing that thing where I cut a PL card and add a portion of it to a photo for my journaling. It's such a quick and easy way to add a bit of context and a few more words to my spread.

Katie and I went to Nashville for the weekend and made it to the Country Music Hall of Fame and got to see Scotty McCreery at the Grand Ole Opry. Katie is a much bigger country music fan than me but man I loved it all. I especially loved getting to go to Hatch Show Print and came home with two new prints.

I like seeing the catch-up pages, and would LOVE to see your 2014 pages. I did Project Life in 2012, and still have 13 spreads to finish in those albums, so it is actually encouraging to see you playing catch-up -- LOL. I agree that I would like to hear more about how you are handling those weeks in terms of remembering what happened and storing/locating memorabilia. But I would also really like to see your 2014 pages!! I didn't realize that you felt you needed to have 2013 all shared before you could share this year's. If you're willing to share them, I'm eager to see. I always like hearing about your adventures, and then soon after seeing them reflected in your layouts. I took 2013 "off" from doing PL, and in some ways regret it, but what's done is done. It gave me time to work on completing my 2012 albums (though that is still a work in progress...). I didn't do PL in January this year, but finally decided I really had the urge to get life documented again, so I started with the first week of February. I love how it seems to stretch the weeks, as I "taste" them (as per Anais Nin...) yet again, so soon after they happened. :)

Thanks for sharing your PL with us! I don't care what week you share, I just love seeing them and always get inspiration from your pages. I would love to know how you organize your PL when you don't have time to work on the pages and how you catch up on the weeks that you have missed.

    Yes
    No

Your behind pages remind me that you are human too! Love that. It really helps me to keep going with my own because I also lost steam both in 2012 and 2013.

One specific thing I'd like to know is your thought process when playing catch up. I find my catch up sometimes stresses me out because I think I am taking too long, or I will leave out more journalling for fear it is out of the week order. Then, I stop myself and try to remember in a few years time it really won't matter that I recorded the twins' first bike ride in September instead of June. Get the story recorded! It's hard to listen to our own advice sometimes. :)

This year I am trying to let go more and if I get behind my plan is to do a month at a time if that means it will make it about the enjoyment of it instead of the stress.

All in all Ali, your honesty is why I keep coming back to your blog!

Yes.No.No. I would love to know if you feel that you need to stick to a colour scheme when your choosing your cards/embellishments. Sometimes I find that I spend too much time trying to figure that out. Also do you have a stash of products that are in reach that you constantly use for project life or do you just use what's on your desk at the time? I really to enjoy sticking my kids school work and art work in Project life, it fits so well with the day to day and its great to look back thru the albums and see their progression and I know that my kids love to talk about their work when they flip thru the album.

Doesn't matter to me if the layouts are current or not. I just love the inspiration I get from seeing them. Enjoy seeing Katie's too. Hard to keep up with all of the new products - I want them all! But alas...the budget won't let me get them all.

I completely agree with all the previous comments! I love seeing your PL spreads and the order doesn't matter to me.

The part of your process that I would love to see is how you keep your supplies together/ready for the catch up weeks (or any week for that matter!) and also how you assess and add to your spreads. My PL is mainly cards, patterned paper and photos but I love how you add embellishments, so this is something I'm trying to incorporate in. I'm just struggling with how to assess the spread for where to add embellishments and what to add, how much etc!! I hope that makes sense? I just have so many cool embellishments but I'm finding it hard to include them because I feel like I don't know how. So would love to learn how you do this part of your process :)

Thanks and keep on sharing all your awesome inspiration! :)

I just had another thought! I would love to also know how and when you decide to add digi elements, e.g brushes/stamps. I find I print my photos and think AFTERWARDS that I should have added something. Would love to know how that part of your process works too!

I like seeing these catch-up weeks & it doesn't matter that they aren’t from last week. However, I'm curious to see what 2014 is going to look like.
It's nice to know that I'm not the only one not done with PL 2013. I have 3 months to do & I'm a bit overwhelmed by the task. Do you have a folder of ephemera & label with the week number on it or do you just estimate when you got this ephemera and insert in that week? Do you have a quick formula to repeat when catching up on PL pages? Are your pages for each week started but just not finished & so you are not starting from scratch. I like to know what is working for you & Katie. Would love ideas to finish my PL 2013 album. Love all your inspiration as well as Katie's. Keep it coming. Thanks.

I love seeing catch-up posts, because I don't do PL on a week-by-week basis anyway. One week might cover 1 1/2 "spreads", another week might only have a few pictures. I only designate the month..so going back to "catch up" does not sound so daunting. :-)

Yes to what other say---no matter what order you post them in, your PL spreads are awesome to look at for ideas. Thanks for sharing them.

I never care about a time frame since I don't scrap chronologically anyway. I am more interested in the process.

I don't care if the PL pages aren't from last week. I actually like knowing that other people get behind on this and aren't systematically churning out fabulous spreads every Sunday afternoon.

As a first time Project Life scrapbooker and really first time scrapbooker, I love seeing past layouts as it gives me inspiration.

I know others have said this and I am just adding my suggestion in how do you organize to remember what you want to do for a layout. I am just getting started for 2014 now. Just bought supplies last week. So I am looking back on my facebook posts, instagram posts, my blog and my offline journals to start pulling things together for the weeks previous. But do you use a notepad, envelopes to stuff things into or how do you organize so you can come back and a play catch up on previous weeks?
