First day.
The dude is back in effect.
In a new school. A new program: an Early Education Preschool with an emphasis on language development. We are SO excited about this. There are 5 kids to each teacher. Looks like most of the kids are boys. There are tables set up with activites to engage the kids in specific ways. Sensory, language, etc.
Chris took Simon to an open house there last Friday so it was not totally new to him today. This morning he went right in and got to work - playing at the rice table with shovels and buckets. And then he saw there was a marble toy on another table. Holy cow that kid loves marbles. We have a similar toy here (thanks Leslie :)) that he loves so much we have to put it away sometimes or else he would play with it all the time. The toy at the preschool has a few more little wheels and whistles so he was all over that one.
He did really well. Gave me a hug and a kiss and went right back to playing.
Now the hunt for afternoon childcare begins...
that's such good news! best of luck with the hunt for afternoon care!

Ali, I'm so glad you've found the perfect school for him! Good luck with the search for daycare. I'll bet this year will lay a good solid foundation for your little guy in preparation for school next year... I know a year of pre-school and therapy did wonders for my guy on the spectrum last year... and kindergarten is going amazingly well this year! :)

I've been reading your blog for some time now, for your designer's approach to scrapbooking. But I always read it for the stories about your son. Glad to hear he enjoyed his first day. As a mother of a teenage boy with Asperger's syndrome and a four year old who goes to school for developmental delays, I love that you are telling Simon's story as well as your own.

You posted a photo of Simon earlier, looking right into his eyes, and he looks to have such a beautiful soul in there.

You guys..all of you Chris, Ali and Simon all are amazing girl.. your entries about Simons growth floods my mind with our own memories. I love your enthusiasm and commitment, and the love you all share. It is so very important in this journey. My son has Aspergers and I often reflect on the fact that "he has taught me as much if not more than I have taught him".I am sure you already know why too. Life takes on a whole new perspective when you have a child, but when you have a special child., it is every so very special. Always remember too that “God only gives “special children” to special people…you are all special.
