Sister time. Re-arranging time.

Sisters

Hello September.

This past week I was really lucky to have my sister Jessica come to visit. The best part? She is also going to have a baby in the new year so we are getting to go through this experience together. We spent a few days shopping (I hadn't started collecting anything for this baby yet so it was even more fun) at baby stores in Portland and Eugene before taking her down to my parents house on the coast.

Getting to spend time with Jessica and shopping really made me start getting even more excited about what is to come.

This baby is like starting over in so many ways. Besides being just about seven years removed from being mama to an infant, all the baby stuff we had used with Simon has been passed on or sold in a garage sale back in May (great timing I know). This means that I have a good list of things to acquire over the next few months - working hard to keep it simple and not go overboard. I think baby stuff is just about as crazy as scrapbooking stuff when it comes to options and potential to have too much.

Around here this week one of the big things we are doing (besides Simon going back to school) is starting to move rooms around. Our small house (which we love) requires a bit of adjustment - my office is moving to Chris' office (not a small task at all), his desk/computer is moving to an area off the living room, and the baby will have a room in my current office. I am actually really excited about this change. I am ready to move things around, reorganize, etc - all part of getting ready for baby.

I am dreaming about adding one or two of these to my office space for storage.

I also think I might be getting excited about taking photos again. It's been awhile since I felt in the mood to be capturing stuff. Maybe it's the change in seasons. Maybe it's back to school time. Maybe it's that I finally feel just a tad bit like my regular self and not a monster pregnant grump. I need to go to the photo shop and pick up my lens that was being repaired.

I have added a google custom search box to the left column. This search box only searches this blog, my newsletter archives, Studio A archives (hoping to update soon), and Designer Digitals. I am hoping this will act as a great resource for future reference.

I love IKEA but I gotta tell you, those shelves and things look great in the picture and cheap at the store. I opted for the Traby system instead. They are real wood and are interchangeable. I just bought two stand-on-the-floor bookcases that are divided into 4 cubes. I put a set of drawers in one and plan on putting doors over another. I also bought two horizontal bookcases to go on the wall above. These are divided into two cubes and have shelves in them. Since these are above on the wall, I gained a ton of counter space. I love love love them. I originally wanted something else at IKEA but once we got there it just looked like it wouldn't last. The Traby stuff was only a bit more expensive and I know it will last. And I can stain it any color I want!

I don't think I said it yet, so congratulations on the baby news! I loved seeing the picture of you and your sister; I am 1,200 miles away from my sister and I know that quality time together is hard to come by. Glad to hear you are in the mood for taking lots of pics again - I really enjoy your photography!

That is so fun to be having a baby at the same time as your sister. A good friend of mine is having a baby next week! I am excited and yet I realized that I am firmly on the side of being done with babies, personally. It was a strange sensation and combined with my daughter Samantha starting first grade (she and Simon are the same age), I was feeling like I graduated or had passed some sort of strange invisible finish line.
And for the first time, I didn't feel sad about it. I felt a bit triumphant. Like Ha! I did it. How did I do it? And, wow, that went by really fast.
But a new chapter is exciting. And I am sure your new chapter will be exciting too. Wishing the whole family all the best. I'm sure Simon will be a great big brother.
