Week In The Life : Tuesday

Hey there, how's it going?

Yesterday I took 128 photos (on Monday I took 92). Will I use them all? NO WAY. Many of them are repeats or different angles or blurry or trial images of the same subject. Next week, when I put the album together, I will go through each day and select the ones that best tell the story.

Any photos that don't make it into the album may be used to tell other stories in my regular scrapbooks. Maybe. And maybe not. One of the beautiful things about this project is that the photos themselves bring up other stories you may have been wanting to tell or you'll find things that are important to you that hold stories that you should tell.

I would love for you to share links to your favorite photo taken so far in the comments section. If you don't have a link you can just describe the shot and tell why you love it. There is magic in this process of capturing your everyday life.

I also wanted to re-post another of my favorite quotes about everyday life. This one's from Anna Quindlen:

..but the biggest mistake I made is the one that most of us make while
doing this. I did not live in the moment enough. This is particularly
clear now that the moment is gone, captured only in photographs. There
is one picture of the three on them sitting in the grass on a quilt in
the shadow of the swing set on a summer day, ages 6, 4, and 1. And I
wish I could remember what we ate, and what we talked about, and how
they sounded, and how they looked when they slept that night. I wish I
had not been in a hurry to get on to the next things: dinner, bath,
book, bed. I wish I had treasured the doing a little more and the
getting it done a little less.

I hope you have a great day today and I hope you roll with this process. Maybe you will write more or less today or maybe you will take a 100 photos or just a few - whatever you collect is just right and will give a peek into your daily life in April 2010.

Enjoy your Wednesday.

Here's a look at some of my favorite photos from Tuesday:

My journaling today was handwritten on an 8.5x11 sheet of paper. I jotted down times & activities throughout the day. I'll post it next week when I show how I put my album together. I'm thinking I might just slip it into a page protector as a new page for Tuesday...

In just making a comment on my observations so far on a Week In The Life project, all I can say is: THIS ROCKS! I am so loving the idea of this project. It is making me go deeper into the everyday moments. And now since I've literally had my camera attached to my arm, I have gotten pictures that I normally wouldn't have. And so far, those pictures have been the best. Like taking a picture of each of my kids (4 yrs, 2 yrs + 6 months) before they woke up in the morning. I'm totally loving this.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with a husband (and kids) that are rolling their eyes. They are not getting it or enjoying having their photos taken. They say they are tired of seeing the camera out. Kind of took the excitement out of it for me, but I'm still going forward.

I am selecting the "best" photos each day instead of waiting until next week when I put together my album. I think it will be too hard to wait until then. I am then uploading them to my Mom Creative fan page on Facebook along with some little notes. Loving this process!

Can anyone tell me how to get the journaling cards to print?
I don't want to bother Ali but I figured someone here could help.
I hate when I can't do something that is so simple.
    Thanks in advance.

I am totally enjoying your pictures that you have been sharing with us! Do you always carry around your SLR or do you have a point and shoot camera also? if so, I would love to know what you use!

So far my favorites are ones taken by other people, since I'm not in front of the camera as much as I would like usually. I gave my point and shoot to my 3.5 year old god-daughter and this was one of the results:

After seeing Monday's shots my husband grabbed the camera a lot more yesterday, this was my favorite that he shot:

Such a common laundry + bedtime routine shot, but I don't think I've ever documented it before. Love it!
    Thanks for the inspiration :)

I love this project and even the girls I work with have been commenting on how great it is. My favorite quote about every day life is from a book Cold Tangerines by Shauna Nequist (Celebrating the Extraordinary Nature of Everyday Life):
"I choose to believe that there is nothing more sacred or profound than this day... This is it. This is life in all its glory, swirling and unfolding around us, disguised as pedantic, pedestrian non-events...Your life, right now, today, is exploding with energy and power and detail and dimension, better than the best movie you have ever seen. You and your family and your friends and your house and your dinner table and your garage have all the makings of a life of epic proportions, a story for the ages. Because they all are. Every life is. You have stories worth telling, memories worth remembering, dreams worth working toward, a body worth feeding, a soul worth tending, and beyond that, the God of the universe dwells within you, the true culmination of super and natural."
Here is my favorite photo from yesterday. Beautiful spring flowers I ran across while rushing to work. I stopped and smelled them and took a moment to notice beauty in a big city:

I set the camera up on the dash and use the timer. My lens is pretty wide (it's a 24-70 and can get everyone in when opened up all the way).

I took a picture of a huge stack of CDs that I'm burning to iTunes so I can go digital and not have so many things around the house. It really captures the mammoth task I've been undertaking!

I found “magic” today when I was reviewing my photos and actually laughed out loud!!! This has been more fun than I thought it would be. I’m having a hard time getting a good shot of me and the results are a riot! In one of the photos of me, I can see a little twinkle in my eyes and love seeing that!
Thanks Ali for always sharing the photos of your beautiful little family. They always brighten my day!!!

Well... I am posting my fave photos each day and I'm also keeping my notes on my blog, because that is the easiest for me. Thanks so much for this project. It has proven we have a pretty extraordinary ordinary life. :)
