I'm Working On

I'm working on filling out paperwork for Simon's third grade re-evaluation for services he receives through the school district. The last time he had a full range of evaluations was kindergarten. Chris and I had a meeting at the school on Tuesday with a psychologist, his program director and a special needs representative from the school district. Our hope is that through this new sets of evaluations we (and our partners at the school) will be able to help him that much more both academically and socially.

I'm working on more paintings (and working on doing more painting vs. collage this week). I'm loving the rhythm of having one painting project in progress during the week that I mess-with, build upon, and then finally call it good on Friday.

I'm working on creating space. Space to breathe, space to create, space to bring in more light. Moving things out to make more room for life (rather than stuff) and becoming more and more selective about what comes through the door (literally and figuratively).

I'm working on a SCRAPBOOK ON THE ROAD project class (PDF download + video presentation similar to my Halloween minibook project class). It will be available March 1. This will be the same class and presentation I taught last fall in Greece. A limited number of kits will be available through Cocoa Daisy. The video presentation for this class is more about the philosophy of a Scrapbook On The Road and you can definitely create the kind of project I'm showcasing with products you have on hand (and collect on your travels). I'll have more details about this in the next couple of weeks.

I'm working on eating my vegetables.

I'm working on figuring out what's wrong with my right leg. Something went awry three or four weeks ago and I haven't been able to run since. I've got an appointment with a physical therapist this morning. I had hoped it would be something that would just go away or heal on it's own but it hasn't happened yet.

I'm working on getting this room, my office, in working order. Still figuring out how I want the room to flow, where it makes sense to store certain supplies, etc.

I'm working on keeping it all in perspective.

Like reading about what you are doing and it gives me ideas about what I could be doing. Arranging a room for flow is not easy. Guess I need to do some diagramming on paper to get a better feel. Good luck with your leg and thanks for the inspiration!

I really like the different frames and textures used on your picture wall.

Two of the photos (Family photo from Italy?) and Simon and Anna look canvas-like with black sides. What processing do you use (Shutterfly etc.)? I like how they look slimmer than the gallery wrap usually offered - 1.5" or .75".

hi ali, just echoing everyone's love of the wall o' photos :) and wondering where you got the unframed ones printed? did they come mounted on some mat board or something or is that something you did yourself?

hope your leg feels better soon. it sucks when you get on a roll with a workout and then get injured, but hopefully you'll be back at it in no time!

Hi Antoinette - my unframed photos are from both Color Inc (http://www.colorincprolab.com/) and Persnickety prints (http://www.persnicketyprints.com/). The one that is really thin is from Persnickety - they mount them for you. The one of the family is from Color Inc and is mounted on a black background about 3/4 inch thick (or maybe thicker). I'm slowly moving towards choosing more of the mounted options rather than having to deal with the frames.

May I just say, I am a jealous girl of all the shots you have of all 4 members of your family. Do you carry a tripod everywhere or do you rely on the kindness of strangers? The last photo I have of all four of us is from 2008! Not cool! How do you do it?

We use the self-timer on the camera a lot. Sometimes we ask people or we have other family with us but often we just find a spot where we can set the camera and make sure we are all in the shot.

    Your picture wall is lovely!

I hope you get a speedy resolution for your leg troubles! I just went through two knee surgeries, and it has been a slow and sometimes frustrating recovery. Physical therapists are the best, though!

Like Julia, who posted above me, I'm also curious about the two photos that don't have a frame and look like canvas. I love how they look mixed in with the framed photos and I'd be interested in knowing where you had them done? There are so many different options for places to get photos printed to canvas, so I'm wondering if you were pleased with how they turned out and if you'd recommend whoever you went through? They look great from what I can tell! As I've commented before, thank you, Ali for all of the inspiring posts!

I'm working on veggies, too. Why must the bread and cookies taste so wonderful?

Here's to working on all the things we work on and to you! =)
