Week In The Life 2011 | Saturday Words + Photos
NUMBER OF PHOTOS FOR SATURDAY | 71
Tonight as I looked back through my photos for the day I was thinking about how even within days that aren't "normal" there are opportunities to tell stories about "normal" things happening in our lives right now - little things that were captured through the lens that I might not even have seen at first glance.
It's a good reminder that there are often many stories to be told within a single photo.
STORY ONE | A huge portion of our day included participating in a neighborhood garage sale. I feel exhausted even though we didn't have a ton of stuff.
STORY TWO | One of my favorite parts of the day was connecting a bit more with our neighbors in this joint endeavor.
STORY ONE | If you asked Simon what his favorite thing from today was he'd tell you playing "Super Simon." Then he'd tell you about how he was rescuing people from all kinds of disasters (like rouge locomotives). He might also tell you how he rescued a favorite too-small shirt and PJ set from the rack of clothing for sale.
STORY ONE | Anna spent the first part of the sale checking out her clothes that are too small and asking to put them on. I think she had on at least six different shirts/outfits over the course of the day.
STORY TWO | Purple and pink. She loves them big time. And her Dora shoes.
STORY ONE | If you asked Anna what her favorite part of today was she'd say something about playing with "the boys." Our neighbors grand-kids were over for the sale today and the two boys and Anna had a great time going back and forth between our houses. They played cars and built with blocks and chatted and played puzzles and rode trikes and the boys missed her while she was taking her nap.
STORY TWO | The ease that Anna has in hanging out with other little kids is sometimes a shock to me. It's really so fun to see her very naturally engage and flow so easily into a playing rhythm.
STORY ONE | While cleaning out a toy closet for the sale I came across this paper airplane kit that Simon received for Christmas last year. It's got cool colorful papers and all kinds of different ways to fold airplanes.
STORY TWO | Something about where the kids are in their relationship to Chris at this point in time. Watching, listening, teaching, learning, having fun.
STORY ONE | Anna needs to have her bangs cut (or needs to learn to like having a clip in her hair).
STORY TWO | The development of her personality is cracking us up so much lately. The things she says, her cadence, her little toothy grins, the way she's connected to Simon, etc.
STORY ONE | Simon loves to pull down some of our stemware for his water from time to time.
STORY TWO | He's just getting so big. He's also getting sillier. I think he's starting to pick up some things that are funny that he's missed in the past.
I still need to scan in my Daily Sheets for today. I'll do that in the morning.
I hope you have an awesome last day of documentation - you're almost there! Keep it up -

great day, great memories!!! love the focus on the stories of the personalities and favorite parts and observations, and the normal on this not so normal day.i would have been tempted to go on an on about the garage sale and miss those little things.
also LOVE simon's santa pjs. they would be my kids' pick for sure. my son wore flannel santa pjs to bed last night - after my daughter made us watch rudolph for her movie night pick.

I agree with Amy above, my thoughts would have been more on the garage sale, my kids are older so my thoughts would have been on how they help and take over the garage sale. We are hoping to have ours next weekend. It's always nice to talk more with your neighbors and for the kids to find friends also.
Sweet little Anna, love her ways of playing and her bangs. Simon is TALL and seems to grow every day. Love his pj's and his imaginary way of playing in the first picture of him.
Thanks Ali for this outlook, I need to look over my photos again and get some stories. They aren't showing up as easily as they did last year. Love love these worksheets you came up with too, huge help and I keep forgetting to take a picture of mine.
Happy Sunday and last day.

Those are great insights into beautiful photos. Love your take about stories about "normal things" even during an atypical or not "normal" day. Your writing style is wonderful!

I had a fun photo idea for today and wanted to share it here and at the BPS site.
How about we all take a picture at 4:00 eastern time today and share our photos of what we were all doing at this time. Thought it would be cool to see this and share them in the gallery at BPS.
For those of you on the other side, maybe someone could pick a different time that would work for you and still share the ideas here and at BPS.
Let me know what you think. Hope this makes sense, what do you think Ali is this a good idea?

I didn't think I would do this well. I'm running on no sleep & being so over tired that I can't sleep. I didn't think I would keep up. But I have made notes for every day & taken at least 30 photos everyday. I am happy I have made the effort. The print outs made it so much easier. Thanks as always for the inspiration. Now to sleep.

I love the stories that went with each photo! What a great idea especially since it makes the photos feel so alive (at least for me). I just love how Simon rescued and wore those PJs in those photos. Anna is also so very cute :) I wish Ellie was a bit more outgoing like Anna sometimes because she is so incredibly shy when kids come to play with her. Thanks for the wonderful inspiration and for this great project!

oh wow, that is so funny Simon uses the martini glass for his water & him as Super Simon, that's so awesome.

Looks like a fun day for your family. I love the stories that you've told about each one. When we have a garage sale, our son who is four is always looking through the stuff and saying, "Hey wait a second, are we garage saleing this? I don't want to sell this." He always finds something that he hasn't played with in a year that he wants to hold on to.
Oh yes, and that tomato - it is simple perfection.

Love your post today. ONe more day with my camera...though I almost killed it yesterday by propping it on the kitchen counter to get a timer shot with me in it. Sadly, the camera fell to the floor. Oh well!

Hey Ali, I'm having a hard time printing the PDF files for the daily sheets in all black....is there a way to alter the sheets at all?
Love your short stories today!
yeah, I thought of the print settings...I have an older printer and it just not as easy as it should be to change the settings apparently. I will give the Photoshop idea a try! Thank you - also, is there a way to type onto the PDF file and then have it print?
You should be able to choose black and white on your printer settings (is that what you mean)? You could also open it in Photoshop and change it to black and white there and then print (I think it's easier to just choose the bw settings when you print).

I don't do the week in a life project but I love following along to see everyone's photos. I've gotten some great project life photos based on what I've seen this week. BUT I do have a comment about Anna not liking to get her hair trimmed. My son refused to sit still for haircuts until we started bringing a medium french fry from Mc Donalds with us. That was a huge treat for him and the hair dresser worked with us (it was easier on her I'm sure). She would cut while he was chewing. She'd stop while we handed him his next bite. It took an extra five minutes but was well worth it. We never had a problem after that.

Can't wait to see your album, but it looks like from your photos and blogs that you almost have it pulled together! It's been nice keeping up with everyone's week. PS: Love shopping at Simon Says (not to be confused with SUPER Simon!).

Okay, I LOVE how you did the Story 1 and Story 2 for each photo. I often take a picture and tell the obvious story. I think I'll try to look at my photos deeper and tell another story. (Not THIS week, though!! lol) Thanks for the inspiration.

I love how you have such a variety of photos during the week! It really shows the different pieces of your life. From days like today where people are the focus to past days where objects and food are at the forefront. Thank you for the inspiration!

I really 'get this'. I've been thinking a lot today about what this week has taught me. This has been a far from normal week for us but the same strands run through it and it's going to give me opportunity to tell stories that might not get told otherwise. Thank you.
