A Day In The Life | The Documentation

Here's a look at some of the photos I captured yesterday during my Day In The Life:

A Day In The Life | Taking Care
A Day In The Life | Before Breakfast
A Day In The Life | Breakfast
A Day In The Life | Sending Off
A Day In The Life | Photographing
A Day In The Life | Working
A Day In The Life | Lily Sleeping
A Day In The Life | Washing
A Day In The Life | Homework
A Day In The Life | Ballet
A Day In The Life | Reading
A Day In The Life | A + G

It was a very normal, very ordinary day around here - exactly what I wanted to document.

And here's the photo collage I put together using my A Day In The Life Layered Template:

I'm going to slip this into an 8.5x11 page protector and add it to Project Life for this week along with my Daily Sheets:

Such beautiful pictures of an ordinary day - really makes you thankful for the little things.

Can you tell me where the black and white pencil bag (makeup bag?) on your desk is from? I'm always on the lookout for great pencil bags and that one is so cute plus it looks a little bigger than most...

I'm thinking I'll have to track something similar down on Etsy. Thanks for taking the time!

Bummer! No brand, either? Thanks for looking! I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled!

Hi Kate - unfortunately I have no idea :). I like it too. I use it for pens and pencils.

Your cat reminds me of my Beardsly, although he probably has a little more white in him. I like that you can get nice photos of your cat. Beardsly won't cooperate at all. When I bring the camera out, he thinks it is time to attack it.

HA! This George thinks he is either a dog or a person and definitely wants to be where all the people are located.

Is the template for PSE only?

Yes - it is meant to be used in Photoshop or Elements. What program were you wanting to use and I can double-check.

Love how the new addition to the household - George - is featured so prominantly. :)

I have a cat named George, too (and also, one named Henry).

    Georges make great cats.

I did my own DITL, as inspired by you. Ours was an 'ordinary' day as well, and looking back at the pictures (taken all on my phone as an added challenge) they might seem slightly uninteresting to me now, but know that they'll be fun to look back on in years to come when our son is older and no longer a baby. :)

Awesome! Love the "looking down from above" shots and what a fantastic room for Anna to have her ballet classes in. Love the stripes.

I had a great time doing this yesterday so much so that I think I will do it every month on the 8th! I even got my daughter to text me some photos from college that I included in my layout. Loved the template that you created it fit so many photos and since many of mine are instagram the squares were perfect. I have found that as my kids are getting older they really don't want me taking their photo with the DSLR but are okay with the iphone so I have lots of phone photos of them. Thanks for sharing your day with us.

Very nice. I'm thinking about documenting February 29th...Leap day. I think it would be neat to see how we spend our extra day this year.

Wow, Ali. I don't comment often, but I have to tell you how inspiring it was to see and read about your ordinary day. I really love your record sheets - especially that the second one includes a gratitude section. I know you're going through a tough time, and it's great to see that you're still stopping to record the details like this. You truly are an inspiration!

For some reason, it gives me a lot of reassurance to see that you too have scrapbook supplies on the floor. It's like I am not the only one out there. :)

I have hope that they will be up off the floor soon - I'm really adept at making piles.

I always love when you do these Ali! I definitely want to do one again and wish that yesterday had worked out for me to do so. I love how you included the pets in your documentation too! I've read your blog for YEARS and I have to say that I'm worried for you - I don't think I've ever seen you seem so tired. I hope you are okay and that you had more to eat yesterday than coffee, chips & salsa! Big hug!! :)

I fell in love with the day-in-the-life documenting this past fall. I did a whole week and they are my FAV pics from 2011! It was fun to do a whole week, because it is hard to capture "normal" in our home! We homeschool and have 6 children and each day looks a little different. :) I have a 4 inch stack of photos to squeeze into my PL album for that week, but they will be so neat to look back on!

So love this! I wasn't planning to participate, photographically speaking, but I made a list of my entire day to add to my PL, and am good with that! Question: what setting do you have your camera on when you take pics of the kids in low light situations - like when Simon was in bed reading...and, No.2: when you do self-portraits, I see that you use your remote (which I have), but how do you focus your camera on yourself when you're behind the camera focusing, and not in the chair???? There's probably a simple answer and I'm just putting too much thought into it, but I'd love to do self-portraits and mine always come out with me being blurry. P.S. I have a Canon - looking to upgrade to the Mark II in April! :D

Lovely photos in just one day! Thank you for another adventure ms. Ali. I'm so glad that I played along. I must say that I love this and the week in the life. I always look forward to them every year and there's just something about capturing the moments of an ordinary life turned extra ordinary after viewing all photos we've taken. Can't wait for the week in the life....

    So, so awesome Ali!
The way you document the everyday has been completely inspirational and fundamental in my attempt to do the same. My process of recording our very "ordinary" days through photos and thoughts has brought so much gratitude, joy and peace into my life that would have otherwise been missed in the hustle and bustle (so easy to get caught up in). For that, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

    Ali,

you do such an awesome job with this project. you capture your world perfectly. i need to come up with a plan to get this done. my husband and i both work and the teens and my youngest son are in school. we're pretty much scattered for the majority of the day. saturday would probably be the best day to capture ourselves in detail. maybe i can get my family to participate and take pics of their day on their camera phones and then gather everyone's photos at the end of the day? thanks for sharing your life. so inspiring as always!

    Ali,
I've been reading you for sometime....I don't scrapbook (!) but I'm 55 and I appreciate your links to wisdom and inspirational sights like ZenHabits and Brene Brown. Keeps me hip. Well, hip-per.

And thanks for the picture of your desk. You're an introvert, I can tell so I appreciate the openness with which you trust. Looks like my desk.

Somehow sharing the good and the not-so-good keeps the world from seeming so big.

    Thanks.

Love the picture of feeding time with George and Lily. And peeking into Simon's room. Just great. I don't know if it's the camera, the lens, or the photographer, but your pics are so great.

Hi LIbbi - I printed mine with a white border :). I also have the option to print borderless on my printer (you might have that too) but I decided to do mine with a border? I'm pretty sure that Persnickety Prints has an 8.5x11 option -

Thank you. I uploaded my photo to persnikity prints and when it came time to order, I learned they charged $5.00 for shipping. Yikes!!! I think I will just print mine from home.
