Project Life 2012 | Week Nine

Welcome to Project Life 2012 | Week Nine.

As you can see, I'm still keeping it really pretty simple. There's not a lot of extra decoration, but I did have fun with an enlarged photo as you'll see below.

For my insert this week I cut a Design F page protector in half.

"This is life" is from my Sentiment 4x6 Boxes, cut using Vellum on the Silhouette.

Letter stickers on the card that documents the time it takes me to drive to Anna's school are from Pebbles.

The "Him/Her" card is from my Two Things set.

I actually printed that one and the Random Fact 001 card on the same 4x6 piece of paper:

The "today" and "loving" cards are from my Life Sentiment Vol.1 cards. The "fabulous" card is from the Smash Blank Journaling Pad.

I've loved seeing how Kelly and Elise have done pages using full page photos in their Project Life albums. Finally took a photo this week that felt like a good one to experiment with (partly because of encouragement from both of them after seeing this photo on Instagram).

I printed it out here at home as a 12x12 (on Epson 13x19 paper) on my Epson R2000 and then cut it down with my trimmer.

Last week I saw something on Pinterest that I knew I wanted to replicate: words on vellum.

Dear Silhouette, I love you.

I used WorldWin Transluscent Vellum, ran it through the Silhouette, rounded the edges with the Corner Chomper and then cut the 4x6 in half to fit into two smaller shapes.

I used a Precision Pen to write on my photos.

And I so often love what's left over on that cutting mat:

Even after scrapping off all those letters:

Wow, this week project life is really cool. (All of your PL pages are are, but this week especially!) I love the last photo that you cut up and the quote.

I have a question for you about your printer and supplies. I am currently researching printers so I can print my photos at home, rather than sending them someplace. I see you really like your Epson R2000. Do you think it saves you money, how often do you go through ink, etc. I'd really appreciate any insight you might be able to share!
    Thanks!

For those who are not using the printer for "work" it doesn't really save money because the ink and photo paper is so expensive but if it can be included as "business expenses" then it would probably be worth it.

Hi Megan - to be honest I don't know if it saves me money. It definitely saves me time in terms of convenience. I use it daily, I do use ink often but I think that's because I use it daily. I probably buy new ink every three months (sometimes more, sometimes less depending on how many projects I'm working on). I have no idea the actual cost comparison between an outside developer and this machine/printing at home. The convenience and the quality are really my two biggest things.

    Love this, Ali.
I've been loving Kelly & Elise's large photos, too, and love how you handled yours. I'm determined, now, to work one into my album, too.
I shared my album with extended family this past weekend and in talking with them about it I've fallen even more in love with the concept and project. Something I look forward to every week!

Hi Ali, Just a question about printing at home... (I have the Epson R1900) when I try printing the mini photos onto a 6x4 (i.e 2-3x4 or 4- 2x3 I keep seeming to 'loose' the edges of my photos in a big way. More of a problem if I've added text or there's a photo border. I've tried printing borderless and with a border and either way I'm loosing so much 'working space' on my 6x4 canvas when it comes to print time. The same happens if I were to print the 2 text cards like you did in this post. Are you aware of any specific settings you use and that perhaps I've overlooked? Any suggestions from you (or anyone reading this!!) would be very gratefully received - it's driving me nuts!

Hi Helen - on my printer I have a bunch of different options for 4x6. The one I use for printing 4x6 is the borderless option that also includes the option of either auto-expand and retain size. I usually go with auto-expand knowing that it will cut just a bit off the edges (I keep any text in a bit farther than normal). When I select retain size it often leaves a bit (a sliver) of white - I think that happens because the paper isn't sitting in the printer just right. You can also play with "scale to fit media" and see what happens :).

I was just looking at Jackie's Project Life project yesterday. And, now yours--it's awesome! They both are!

I'm a slow adopter when it comes to adopting these sorts of things (kind of have a routine for my memory keeping), but I have to say that I'm super close to jumping in, too, wrt Project Life. What a cool format and it's just so open for ephemera and design fun and well...anything.

I think what I love most about the project/format is that it is so inviting. Plus, it seems to capture stories as they unfold rather than as we develop and frame them (sort of a different perspective for me). It's such a great addition to what a memory keeper might already be doing.

Anyhow, thanks for sharing yours and your ideas. It's so fun and inspiring! And now, I hear my checkbook calling... =)

Love this week with all the little comments about just a bit more than just the current week (like the him and her card for example) I don't do regular pages anymore since I do PL and I'm kind of missing those little details...I have to include them as well in my album. :) Nicely done!

It brought tears to my eyes to see that quote by Diane Ackerman. It fits the intentions behind my 2012 OLW (focus) so well. I already had seen it on another blog, and earmarked for inclusion in my PL album as well as my OLW project. No cutting machine here, though, so I will have to figure out another method of display.
Thanks for sharing the pen information- I was just looking at Sharpie paint pens at Office Depot today!

I love your Project Life this week, as always!

Quick question, I'm also using InLinkz to link to supplies. I really want to link to your digital stamps that I use but I can't get InLinkz to recognize any images on designer digitals. Yet I see that you've linked there so I was wondering if there is a trick I'm missing. Thanks for any help you can give!

hi Ali. thanks for all the great inspiration.
i see lots about lack of sleep at your house; we've been there. for the littles, i do "the relaxing thing:" where I start at their toes, and say "relax your toes, relax your ankles, relax your shins, relax your calves..." all the way up to their brains. I take both hands and firmly hold each part so they have that extra sensory element along with my words. Then they don't ususally ask me to lie down with them, and are relaxed enough to drift off, especially if I go slowly.
For my own roaring brain, I have a trick that I learned from an amazing yoga instructor 10 years ago that I STILL use! She said to imagine a marquee or highway sign, and inscribe a word that's worrying you on it. then visually cut the sign in half and let the pieces slide to either side. You do this for each worry in your head, and if something keeps coming up, then put it back on the sign, bisect it, and keep going. I think it's like making a list before you go to bed, except no lights, no writing. It's an interesting meditation. Oh, and I've heard other people use this technique except visualize a little boat with your words on it, and send it downstream...I wish you sleep!
    best,
    Cortney
