It is so fun to see their perspective. What camera do you use for him? I have a 3yr old who loves to get his hands on my cameras - don't really know what to get him that works but doesn't cost much.

He certainly has a great role model! And congrats to your hubby on folowing his dream too. You are all a wonderful family!

My granddaughter LOVES to use our cameras so I can TOTALLY relate! What a fun look at his world. AND I have been to that store in Hermiston - actually a couple times, so have FUN!

I feel for you about your outing to the post office. My nephew who is 11 has Asperger's Syndrome (for those who don't know, it is on the autism spectrum). My sister has had some rough times with his behavior when in public because it doesn't LOOK to strangers like there is anything wrong with him so everyone assumes it is just spoiled kid/bad parent. Hugs to you!

What great pictures from Simon! He's quite the little photographer. I think it's really cool to see his perspective, to look at things from his height.
And yes, GO TAYLOR! I'm so thrilled for him, he's such an artist. You can so tell that he does what he does because he loves it, he feels it, and he is inspired. Looking forward to great things from him.

I love getting the kids pictures developed to see what they have captured on film. Simon's pictures are wonderful!

The 1st thing I noticed about Simon's pictures was how he lined up his movies. That looks SO familiar....everything in our house was in a straight line for ages - cars, movie boxes, food, train track, you name it. I guess it's soothing, creating order like that (I can relate!).
And I feel for you about the tenderness and the judgment in people's faces when our little guys can't handle what the world is throwing at them. I end up feeling like a bag of broken glass, the slightest push and the bag will break, with me kind of spilling out everywhere. And how heartbreaking (in a good way) that he says 'love you' right after an episode. That's the sort of thing that just melts me.

LOL! Simon lines up movie boxes! That's such a familiar sight in our house. Connor prefers to line them up on the front porch railing where they are at eye height and the dog can't get at them.
I also have to tell you that Connor (5 y.o.), who has never shown any interest in anything on the computer before, stared for a long time at Simon's pictures. I don't know if the perspective looked familiar or if he just wanted to check out the movie boxes or what, but something caught his eye like I haven't seen before.
I'm sorry you all had a rough trip out today. We've all had experiences like that. It's so wonderful that Simon can tell you "love you" afterwards--he was just doing his best to deal with a tough situation in there and loves you for being patient with him and for getting him out of there!

Love Simon's pictures! My daughter loves taking pictures too, especially of her "stuff". I want to get her a little digital camera, was hoping to find one when I got my Rebel so we could both be photographers. They only had a Barbie one in the price range that I was interested in...not too keen on Barbie as she is only 4. Do you happen to know of a good digital for the younger set? She used to use my Kodak EasyShare all the time, but I want her to have one to call her own and to let her take pictures when her inspiration calls. Thanks!

Ali, the pictures that Simon took of you and Chris are my favorites. They capture your love and joy for Simon in a unique way. Those two pictures really touch my heart to think that they are his perspective of his wonderful parents. I can't put it in to words so well but.....they are very touching! Thanks for sharing a bit of Simon's view. He is such a cutie!!!

What great photos! My son is 24, and I got teary-eyed looking at Simon's pictures. It took me back to when my son was little. I never thought of handing him a camera, but often got down on my hands and knees and watched "his" view of the world. Celebrating when he could turn on the light switch seemed silly to add to the journal at the time, but I did it anyway. I wish now I would have recorded more.
I think many of us have experienced the shrill of a child's emotion. When my niece was 3 and staying with us, we went shopping. At the checkout, she proceeded to scream uncontrollably because she couldn't have the Barbie doll that another adult had abandoned there. It was tucked behind the hanging candy, but my niece's radar for Barbie was impeccable. The screaming started when I told her she couldn't have it. It would have been less embarassing had I just purchased the silly thing. But, I thought, "today it's Barbie, tomorrow it might be Ken - at 13 it might be John. Self-control is a good thing." So, she shrieked, the glares could be felt. I remained calm - it was so important that I used self-control, too. I simply looked around and stated, rather loudly, "she's going for an Emmy!" Chuckles turned into laughter. The shrieking stopped. She somehow knew her "acting career" was over. Each child is so different, and for some this wouldn't have worked. But, in that single moment, it did. I was grateful.

My daughter lines her movies up just like Simon. She calls them her road and then she walks on them. She does it over and over again. I think she would rather line them up then watch them, LOL! Simon takes some great photos. Thanks for sharing.

What great photos! What type of camera do you have for him to use? I have a DSLR and my son loves to "Take" pictures - I need to get him something that he can use, any suggestions. I think you are a fantastic Mom - we all have challenges and you really seem to embrace yours and try and go with the flow. That is an example to me as I deal with things in my own life.

Of the photos...the one with all the DVD cases lined up...did Simon line up the cases?
One of my brother's lifelines has always been videos (and now DVDs). As a child, he would line up EVERY SINGLE ONE - perfectly - in his own particular order. God forbid you walked by and nudged a case out of place.
He also kept them in very specific order on the shelf when he was done with them...
Seeing those DVDs in a row sure made me think of my brother. I need to go scrap that...
