miniBOOK : AEzine Challenge

AEzine Challenge for the week of September 24, 2006: Your challenge this week was/is to use wallet photos to create a miniBOOK about your five fabulous favorites right now. Pick everyday favorites - simple stuff like your cozy fleece jacket, your hand cream, your electric toothbrush, your favorite CD of the moment, and your drink of choice. Maybe step out of your own personal box by using non-photos or a mixture of photos + ephemera. (I am looking at a pastry bag from Starbucks sitting on the seat next to me thinking that would make a great visual for one of my favorites right now.)

If you don't feel like making something about yourself this week then ask your partner or child to name five of their favorite things right now and document those instead.

Go for "mini" overall. Small photos + small album = BIG goodness.

SUPPLIES:

• miniBOOK : Itty Bitty Album from Cosmo Cricket: this is one of those products that comes on a 12x12 sheet (similar to the Basic Grey matchbook albums) that you punch out and fold. Super easy and quick.

• Today Stamp : Ledger Stamps by Katie Pertiet for Autumn Leaves

• Ribbon : American Crafts

• Stickers : 7gypsies

• Fabulous Tab, Chipboard 5 on the cover, Bling Circle on the cover : Heidi Swapp

It is all about playing and keeping it simple. One thing you may have noticed in this miniBOOK is that I mixed vertical and horizontal photos. This is a question I get a lot in my workshops. My answer is this: don't worry about it! When someone picks up your album and turns their pages they will automatically turn the book based on how you have oriented the photos. Pick the photos you love and use them.

Also, one thing I just noticed as I was looking at my miniBOOK - I forgot to add the dates. Make sure you add dates on your projects - I am jotting mine in right now. Ten years from now you won't remember (I probably wouldn't remember next year) so take a couple seconds and add it while you are working on the project.

I also wanted to let you know that I had a few people email me highly recommending using a Xyron as adhesives for their miniBOOKS - I will have to try that soon.

Feel free to link to your own project here in the comments section. Can't wait to see what you guys came up with this week.

Great project Ali! I love your ideas when it comes to the "little things" Things that I wouldn't normally think of doing, you remind me of! Thanx for that.

thanks ali....another great inspiration! by limiting it to 5 things, makes it seem attainable.... i tend to want to include everything and then get overwhelmed with trying to get it all in... this is a must do.

Here's my first submission - thanks for the inspiration. I set out to do my favorite things and got stuck on one, my son Nathaniel. Still, what fun! And, you're right, it's incredibly liberating to do something small and quick and have it completed. I set it out on the counter to see when Nathaniel will notice it. I'll let you know what happens....

Somehow I always hesitate to put my current favorites down knowing that the next day they may change -- but I guess that's the beauty -- will now do this more often!!!

Hi! Reading your "challenge" had me up til 2am this morning working on it -- doing 6 favorite things though! And I was so excited when you mentioned the Basic Grey matchbook album...I suddenly recalled I might just have one of those kits...and when I searched I found one in "Fusion" (love those colors!). So I am almost done...but not sure how to post it to you to see! Will try and figure that one out! Thanks for the inspiration and fun! -Diane

Love your mini book! Love the small size pics with the sanded edges and the "today" stamp. Absolutely love the circle of bling on the front. Nice.
Such a fun project Ali. I thoroughly enjoyed this project. http://www.creatingkeepsakes.com/gallery/details.ihtml?idx=20688 and http://www.creatingkeepsakes.com/gallery/details.ihtml?idx=20689 Although, yesterday I realized that I had forgotten one little part of the challenge--forgot to make the pics wallet size. Love what I ended up with though. I also forgot the date but have my date stamp out and will rectify that today. Thanks so much for the inspiration.
