miniBOOK : AEzine Challenge

AEzine Challenge for the week of September 24, 2006: Your challenge this week was/is to use wallet photos to create a miniBOOK about your five fabulous favorites right now. Pick everyday favorites - simple stuff like your cozy fleece jacket, your hand cream, your electric toothbrush, your favorite CD of the moment, and your drink of choice. Maybe step out of your own personal box by using non-photos or a mixture of photos + ephemera. (I am looking at a pastry bag from Starbucks sitting on the seat next to me thinking that would make a great visual for one of my favorites right now.)

If you don't feel like making something about yourself this week then ask your partner or child to name five of their favorite things right now and document those instead.

Go for "mini" overall. Small photos + small album = BIG goodness.

SUPPLIES:

• miniBOOK : Itty Bitty Album from Cosmo Cricket: this is one of those products that comes on a 12x12 sheet (similar to the Basic Grey matchbook albums) that you punch out and fold. Super easy and quick.

• Today Stamp : Ledger Stamps by Katie Pertiet for Autumn Leaves

• Ribbon : American Crafts

• Stickers : 7gypsies

• Fabulous Tab, Chipboard 5 on the cover, Bling Circle on the cover : Heidi Swapp

It is all about playing and keeping it simple. One thing you may have noticed in this miniBOOK is that I mixed vertical and horizontal photos. This is a question I get a lot in my workshops. My answer is this: don't worry about it! When someone picks up your album and turns their pages they will automatically turn the book based on how you have oriented the photos. Pick the photos you love and use them.

Also, one thing I just noticed as I was looking at my miniBOOK - I forgot to add the dates. Make sure you add dates on your projects - I am jotting mine in right now. Ten years from now you won't remember (I probably wouldn't remember next year) so take a couple seconds and add it while you are working on the project.

I also wanted to let you know that I had a few people email me highly recommending using a Xyron as adhesives for their miniBOOKS - I will have to try that soon.

Feel free to link to your own project here in the comments section. Can't wait to see what you guys came up with this week.

I did this one earlier this year, but seeing everyone else's, I'm getting really inspired and might do another one! In the meantime, here's the "My Favorite Things" mini book I did using the Rusty Pickle Card Keeper and Chatterbox.

I just got word you're coming to Tracy, CA in Feb.! So excited! It's my hometown. Ask me, and I promise to show you where all the Starbucks are (and the Roasted Bean, our local coffee shop). Keep in mind that San Francisco is about an hour away...you could make this a really fun trip!
You said to e-mail you if I didn't subscribe in time for the first newsletter. I didn't, but have no idea how to e-mail you!

Hi, New to the group and this is my first reply ever to a blog (new to it.) I am working on the challenge - but mine will probably be photoless - hope that is ok.
If anyone has a copy of the first newsletter it would be awesome if I can read it.
    Thanks

Ali, thanks for the awesome challenge! I LOVED the topic. I think it's going to be fascinating to look back on this little book 20 years from now. I also enjoyed stepping out of my comfort zone since I rarely do mini albums. It ended up being a lot of fun. Thanks for the inspiration. I'm looking forward to your next challenge!

I have been waiting for something like this! As a new school year started with our family, I knew I wanted to challenge myself educationally with my scrapbooking. The first AE zine arrives and WHAM! - here is the challenge I've been looking for. I enjoyed thinking about and creating this mini album. and I really enjoyed receiving the challenge to motivate and direct my scrappin time. so looking forward to the next one!
