How to eat a kiwifuit.

Kiwi1

I was sitting here this morning eating a kiwi and thinking about how happy I was that I had seen how my friend Jeffrey eats kiwis. Before this I would have always tried to peel it (with a knife of course) - it was just too much trouble. I mentioned it to Chris - who is sitting behind me on the other computer - and he said, "now that is a blog post. Just think how many more people may be able to enjoy eating a kiwi."

Here's Jeffrey's recipe for success in eating a kiwi:

1. slice a bit off the top and the bottom

2. place the kiwi on a plate

3. use a spoon to dig in and enjoy

Kiwi2

No peeling, no mess. Pure kiwi fruit enjoyment.

Have a great Sunday - and WOW on all the awesome challenge posts over the last couple of days. Love how you guys worked those stamps!

I'm currently living in Malaysia and when buying a pack of 4 kiwi I noticed a little yellow plastic "divider". Thought it was odd but whatever. 2 days later when about to eat one, I realized it was a knife/spoon and figured out what to do. What an awesome idea. I buy 4 packs only now just to get the spoon. I can't wait to show this to the rest of the family. We always peeled and sliced. Didn't even know you can eat the peel. Wish I could find this gadget without buying all these kiwi.

Thank you so much for this information. I just bought Kiwis for the first time and wasted half of it. I peeled it and then tried cutting it. I didn't know if you eat the middle or was it a core. Could I eat the seeds or the skin. I know I wasted alot of good juice peeling and slicing the darn thing. I have to go try it the easy way now that I know I can eat it with a spoon.

My friend slices them in quarters the long way so you end up with 4 long wedges. Then she eats them off the skin the same as eating orange wedges. She takes them on picnics. No need for any silverware this way, just eat off the skin and toss the skin.

I've never eaten a kiwi, and assume they would be very tender, and have a more earthy flavour than chicken. Kiwifruit on the other hand are yum! Never knew anyone didnt cut them in half. I saw a funny tee once that had a Kiwi (bird) being sliced and the inside was like a kiwifruit inside. Finding that tshirt was actually how I found this site.

In New Zealand, where I live, when you buy a packet of kiwi fruit they actually give you a special knife/spoon thing to cut them open and scoop out the insides

My personal preference is to slice them into thin slices. I usually get about 12 to a kiwi. Then I simply eat them with the skin on. This way they are not very furry, but the skin gives you a little crunch to enhance the kiwi experience. You probably get more vitamins as well with the skin on. I also buy a few when I find fresh ones in the produce store. I try to eat one a day. I also like berries with breakfast. Blackberries are my favorite as they have the most fiber. But I pick from blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and strwberries depending on which is priced the best.
