Christmas Project #5 : Button Trees (in progress)

This fantastic idea comes from the very talented Tia Bennett. She created one for Two Peas - I simply printed out the photo + instructions and went to work. Click her name to get to the sample + how to.

One of the coolest things about this project is that Simon was interested in playing along. One of the first things we did was sort buttons. I had been storing them all together in a big jar and found it easier to work with for this project once they were sorted by color.

After awhile they looked like this:

Simon worked and worked (such a good motor skills exercise) and declared his tree finished. Love it:

I went with red, brown, cream, and a bit of green. Mine is still in progress (and I started a second one with clear buttons):

And the best thing to do after a big craft project:

My friend did these trees last year and they turned out darling. She used antique wooden thread spools as the "trunks" which was super darling.
I just found your blog, and I'm enjoying it immensely. It's so good to refresh myself by reading someone who focuses on the details in life--and how the details impact people, environment, and more. Thank you.

    Ali,
I love these photos. Especially the one of you and Simon sleeping together. That is my very favorite one. Hold on to that for EVER. My boys are 25 and 23 and I see that and I wish they were Simon's age again. So sweet. He is an adorable little man.

Thankyou Ali for the Button Tree link. Every Year I tell myself I am going to create something for Christmas and I usually get waylaid with life. Yesterday, my daughter and I sat and made two button trees. Rachel's was pink/purple/blue and mine green/red/gold. We painted the cones first, so that the gaps were a little more disguised.
I make presents for others each year and totally enjoy it. This year I made myself one.
    Thanks Again
    Ange

    Ali:
I just wanted you to know that my 3 kids and I just made these trees and LOVED making them. Thank you so much for the idea! My daughter who is home for Thanksgiving from her freshman year in college made a darling one as did my 15 year old and 12 year old!
My sister and her girls are making them too! She lives 2 hours from me and so we talked about where to buy the stuff over the phone.
You have made 2 families here very happy crafting together!
    Happy Thanksgiving!
    Debbie

He's cuter than a button and the trees are nearly as cute as him (and that's really cute!)
