Things I am inspired by + excited about

1. 3191 : A Year of Mornings is now available in book form. I followed this project last year online and loved seeing the photos side by side. There is something so magical and beautiful about how these ladies see and capture the everday. You can see some of the sample photographs and read more about the project here. You can also follow their current project here 3191 : A Year of Evenings.

2. Blankets & baby stuff (love the modern mobiles) from this etsy shop: Quiltbaby. Going for an orange, red, yellow, and cream theme in the baby room.

3. Cloth diapers : I did it with Simon for awhile when he was between one and two and am going to go for it with this baby from the beginning.
Cloth diapers have come a long way from those in the past. If you are
interested in reading more this is a good place to begin. This site also has a ton of photos for figuring out sizing and deciding which route you want to go. I am going with a combination of Kissaluvs (which are called "fitteds"), Chinese Prefolds, and Thirsties covers.

4. Fabric gift tags via an older post on The Purl Bee - Purl Soho's creative blog (thanks for the link Kristin). Lots of inspiring visuals on that site.

5. This project by Janet Hopkins.
I am going to use this inspiration (and her how-to) as the jumping off
point for my December Daily album this year. You can see last year's project here:
basically it's a daily record for the month of December. The key is
that you get it all ready BEFORE December so you can just be doing
small bits each day of the month. I love how she used the old book
cover and the binder mechanism. A similar project (her class project for Creative Escape) can be seen here.

Happy Monday! What's inspiring you lately?

Kudo's to you for usinq cloth diapers! I used them for 6 yrs with 2 children..#2 and # 3 child. I was too chicken to use them with my first, but after I started I couldn't believe how much easier they were than I thouqht. I should have used them all 3 times. I used Chinese prefolds, pins and pull on soft vinyl pants. They worked qreat..no leaks. Very "qreen" and very economical. You qo, qirl! BTW, I love your bloq, your books, and your maqazine column. You rock.

Yay for cloth diapers! We used them for both our girls (now 24 & 19!) back when the choices were pretty slim :). I remember my husband running out to buy diapers when I went into labor 2 weeks early with my first baby, coming home with 3 different styles from Payless (remember Payless?!) since we'd never even discussed them yet! I just assumed my baby would be late, like all the literature said about first babies (both kids were early...) so wasn't very prepared yet!
About what's inspiring me? The cooler temps in Oregon---the splash of rain, the sunflowers growing in our garden, and glimpses of autumn as the trees begin to blush---it's my favorite season!

We ended up using these with my youngest, and found them a little "easier" than cloth, especially when traveling. Flushable, eco-friendly and no diaper rash.
    Good luck!!!!

I love your inspiration posts! I have to say i wasn't sure I could do cloth diapers, but I decided to give it a shot. We're 3 months in, and I'm loving it. The tiny prefolds we started with are just too cute! And Thirsties are my favorite!

:) cloth diapers will be much easier on the budget and on the environment. I'm glad you've decided to go for it. Compared to the cloth diapers, pins and rubber pants I changed as a teenage babysitter, the new dipes and covers are a piece of cake.

Hi, Thanks for the great inspiration! Its spring where I live, so at the moment pinks and whites and flowers are inspiring me right now! And baby stuff...Im pregnant with Baby Number two!
I love the idea of a Year full of Mornings/Evenings. I would love to find someone who would want to do this with me? Im sure there is plenty of people out there who would love to try it. Not for a whole year, maybe just a month. But wouldn't it be great to do with someone across the country, or the other side of the world? It would be neat to set up a few blogs and see everyones photos from a month of mornings or something similar??

    ali,
i've used gdiapers.com with my 2 children and love them. they're not perfect, but no diaper is. just thought i'd share to ensure you knew about them. you can always get a starter kit to make sure they are satisfying to you. they're much easier than cloth (in my mere opinion). i love that they're ecologically friendly, too.

So happy to see you're using cloth diapers :) Just as a little tip, every mom I know around my parts uses Bum Genius as their cloth diaper of choice, and adores them! Just in case you hadn't looked into those ones :)

I didn't have success with cloth diapers until I had my 3rd child almost 2 years ago, and found out it was very doable. I also love the Bum Genius all-in-ones and love the big drawstring bag they sell that you can plop the diapers in when they're dirty in and then throw it in the wash along with the diapers. No pail to deal with! And now that he's 22 months, it seems he will be easy to potty train, b/c he's more aware of being wet, etc.
    Best wishes!

I was a cloth diaper mom. Not on purpose! My oldest girl was allergic to plastic/disposable diapers. SO..cloth diapers it was. Thank goodness my mom was around or else I would have even known where to start! GOOD LUCK!

LOVE the orange colour scheme (orange is my favourite colour!). Good for you on choosing to try cloth nappies. I used them for both my kids; the only time they got nappy rash was with disposables. I also think they potty trained themselves much earlier because they knew when they were wet. Anyway, good luck with it all, and thanks for taking the time to share all these bits and pieces with us all :)

We are a cloth diaper family also and all of my girl friends think I'm nuts. We use BumGenius and the company who makes them, Cotton Babies is very philathropic.

I was thinking of babies and when I saw the little fabric gift tags I thought that you had made nursing pads!! I did make my own nursing pads out of flannel and they looked a lot like those gift tags, only white. :-)

Hi Ali! Congrats on your girl news! We are cloth diapering our baby #4 (boy, boy, girl, girl - you know we love symmetry at our house!) and I 'm so sorry I didn't go there before. Check out Monkey Snuggles at Etsy - her pocket diapers are great for going out, etc. I didn't think I'd like the pockets, but I really do!
    All the best, Janette

Have to laugh at all of the cloth diapering (CD) comments and the person who thought the tags were nursing pads :) ha. Could see how that happened :) CDing with our 2nd child who is (GASP!) now 10 mos old. (GULP) Highly recommend the CPFs and Kissaluvs for newborns. Really liked Bummis and Motherease covers. It looks like everyone loves Bum Genius for a pocket diaper but we've enjoyed Fuzzi Bunz better. Once baby is past the newborn stage. And yes -- someone mentioned wool (for covers etc) and wool is indeed very addictive per one of my mom friends here. Thought I would pass on a site or 2 from here in Canada...I'm definitely not one to solicit (I just like to shop! ha) but I highly recommend checking out this site --- http://hyenacart.com/RecyclingBabies/ or other sites like it for baby clothing/diaper products made out of adult clothing (ie, recycled!).
A few other sites for CDing:
    http://www.diaperpin.com/home.asp
    And eco babies :):
    http://www.theconsciouschild.com/
    http://greenlivingideas.com/babies/natural-clothing-for-your-eco-baby.html
I'm sure there are a million and one other sites out there.
Best wishes for VITALITY during such an exciting time for you and your family!! :)
