Yesterday & Today Begins In One Week & A Giveaway

YT_giveaway

In just one week my new workshop begins at Big Picture Scrapbooking: Yesterday & Today.

It's hard to believe it is almost finally here.

And in case you didn't know already, you're invited to join me.

Here's what I want you to know if you are still considering embarking on this journey with me:

• With a focus on the stories from yesterday & the stories from today, this class is really an in-depth look at the way I scrapbook.

• Each week (on Thursdays) you will receive an email inviting you to the classroom where a video presentation will be waiting for you to access on your own time (you do not need to be online at a certain time - it's just one of the awesome things about Big Picture's classroom set-up). These video presentations are not just a 5-15 minute talk about the subject and the layout - so far they are averaging around an hour. During that hour my goal is to inspire you to take a look at the way in which you scrapbook and encourage you to focus on the things that matter most to you within the framework of the theme for that week.

• In addition to the video presentations there are weekly video tutorials showing my processes for concepts and techniques using Photoshop Elements.

• For those of you, like me, who like to actually read the weekly content there will be a color PDF download detailing the concepts and information covered in the video presentation (as well as a how-to for the weekly project).

• Each week there will be a digital element download and a digital layered template (all new). The digital elements will be used as printables (hybrid elements) on the weekly layout and the layered template will match the paper layout I create for each week.

• Even if you will be away for a time during the class you will still have access to the materials.

• The class will have it's own message board & gallery for sharing and communicating with one another (including me).

• This workshop is a chance for you to:

  1. investigate your past through words + photos

  2. do something meaningful with older photos if you have them (or to tell those stories that have meaning even if you don't possess the photos)

  3. tell your own personal stories of success + challenge + growth

  4. work on embracing imperfection & going with the flow

  5. celebrate your everyday life + make sure you are capturing stories that are meaningful to you today

  6. connect with other people who care deeply about collecting + celebrating the stories of their lives

• The cost for this 13 week class is $99.

I am really, really excited for this workshop to get underway.

I hope to see you there.

Want to know more? Additional details, an audio introduction, and registration can be found here. Registration will close on October 7.

I had an amazing experience as a young adult being a wrangler at an ecumenical retreat ranch in the Rocky Mountains. I met 40 or so new people every two weeks and lived in community with them, and taught them how to ride horses and led rides to the tops of mountains overlooking glaciers, waterfalls, etc. Only later as I matured and read more did I realize that many of these same folks are some of the greatest scholars of faith or geneology or creative writing or... The ranch was truly my spiritual home during some tumultuous and change-filled years in my life and now, 15 years later I still feel that longing to head west each May. I have hundreds and hundreds of photos and stories and creative prose notebooks that are sitting in that proverbial box, I would love the impetous to get them documented from my emotional standpoint.

I would like to document some of the details of my paternal grandmother's life. For instance, she went to college long before it was considered proper for a girl to do so. After graduation, she taught on an Indian reservation in Arizona. She was one of 13 children, all of who survived into ther 70's and 80's. I attibute my love of reading to her, as well as my love of gardening. She was definitely way before her time in her goals and aspirations.

I want to document the story of my siblings - what it was like to grow up the oldest of seven children, only three of whom shared two parents in common. Seriously it was a "mine, his, ours, and a few others" situation, but we never made any distinctions - we were (and are) simply brothers & sisters - not "halfs" or "steps" or "foster kid who got adopted". It is complicated to explain where we each came from and I just haven't figured out how to put it all into words yet.

Walking, skipping, or running to the neighborhood grocery store to buy small, last-minute items that Mom needed at the last minute while she prepared a meal--an onion for 3 cents, a loaf of bread for 15 cents, etc.

I would document my career; that
aspect of me is totally missing
from our family scrapbooks. In my
family scrapbook, I am just Mom ( also an important role) but I do have a career that I love that I would like to share.

In the last 6 1/2 years, I've lost my older sister, mom, and dad. I would like to document our relationships for my children, as only 1 of the 3 was old enough to know my mom and sister, and to keep the memories of my dad alive for all of them (& myself!!)

I would like to document some of the sadness from my childhood, and how I try each day to give my own daughters a different kind of childhood, so that there is a lot more happiness, for everyone.

I've been thinking about my grandfather recently. He had a transmission shop. He was really the only person that "gave" me money (as opposed to buying things for me). His money smelled like transmission fluid. When I was older, I told my dad that the money he gave me wasn't right. He asked why and I told him it didn't smell right. I'd love to be able to document that story and others like it.

I have collected 'stuff' for years saying that i am going to document some of our family's (my mom & dad's) history..and just never get to it. I hope this will jump start me to get to that point. One of my fav albums was the album track I did with you .. so I know that this will be the thing to do it OR i just won't get there for a very long while. . I am so looking forward to it!

The stories of my parents. I know so much about my mother and very little about my father and that will soon change.
