Last year on Day Seven I used the envelope to write a note to Simon. It’s definitely a tradition I want to continue from year to year.
Of course now I get to write two notes.
To Anna I wrote about it being her first Christmas and how excited we are to share our family traditions with her. To Simon I wrote about his current interests (legos) and how much we love him and love how excited he gets about the holidays. They are simple notes of love and affection.
Here’s a look at the two letters:
SUPPLIES : pattern paper: Art Warehouse (from 2008); small file tabs: unknown;
Here’s the before image:
DAY THREE : Red envelope from Paper Source. Red Circle Number from Every Jot & Tittle. Scalloped edge along the top of the envelope created with the Fiskars Apron Lace border punch.
Giveaways coming tomorrow. I will update my days 4, 5, and 6 on Sunday evening. Have a wonderful weekend!

I simply love how you are putting these together!
what a great idea – i love the presentation in the envelope. thanks for the inspiration.
This is sooo lovely!
I included an envelope too so that I can also start this tradition. I’m thinking of having my husband write a note to our son, also. Thanks for the inspiration
I should have Chris do it too – thanks for mentioning that Stephanie.
sweet + pretty
Ali, you are fantastic! I so love the things you do! Yours is the first site I read every day. Thanks so much for all of the glimpses of your life you share and for the inspiration! I am finally committed to actually doing the DD album I started two years ago and love getting ideas from your pages.
Brilliant idea!!! Mind if I copy?
love this idea!
So fantastic, Ali! LOVE LOVE LOVE it. You are inspiring beyond words and I am so grateful to be able to steal these little peeks into your creative magic. Thanks so much for sharing!
Hi Ali
always a joy to see what you’ve made and willing to share.
Hugs,
Hedwig
Always inspiring! I am loving completing my own DD album, thanks to you!

I really like the journaling to your kids – what a treasure for them to read during christmas’ in the future
Love the idea of a journal note to your kids – great idea
Lookin’ so good!
Thanks for sharing. You’ve inspired me to write notes to both of my sons. Even though they are teenagers I think it is important for them to read about my feelings of them during this holiday season.
I’m thinking those notes will be the “longest cherished” memories!
Awesome idea – love it!!! BTW what are you planning to do with the backsides of your photos of day 2? Are you going to leave them blank? Thanks again for so much wonderful inspiration here!
Definitely won’t leave them blank – most likely I will just add some more photos from around the house.
LOVING your December Daily!! I think this is the first year I have followed along day by day!! I want to do this. Hopefully I’ll be ready for next year or maybe I will adapt it and do it now. Thanks for sharing! LOVE the red envelope punched at the top!! Looking forward to seeing the next three days!! WOW!!
Thanks for all the sharing!
Were you at the Beaver/Ducks game, thought I saw you in the stands. Great game~
Thank you for sharing! I’m having so much fun with my project along the way!
Nope – watched it from the comfort of my couch
.
This is such a great idea! I want to do this next year. Definitely not organized enough this year! Can you do a workshop on this in the summer?
Great idea. I wish I had all the Christmas notes I wrote to my son over the years but didn’t save. I won’t make that mistake with my granddaughter!
Wow this looks amazing!
Ali-
I’ve got 2 questions for you -
1. The December Daily template vol. 2 that you posted – can that be resized as I am doing an 8×8 album – using the same instructions you explained in the Yesterday Today tutorial? I plan to purchase this template if so
2. On the dec 1, 2, 3, etc overlay/brush I am having difficulty moving it around once I resize it and move it my document – i can’t move it around once I let go of my initial move to the doc (i hope that makes sense!). Is there something I am missing, because it worked for you in the tutorial you posted a couple days ago? I checked the layers palette and I am on the correct panel. Any thoughts would be great ! I am loving doing the dd album
What a wonderful idea! I really need to get cracking on mine…I have the photos, i gotta work on the words!
I love this idea. Definitely an advantage to working with paper/physical objects over digital in this case. Maybe next year I’ll have enough scrapbooking under my belt to feel comfortable leaving my computer screen. Or perhaps I’ll find some way to work this in.
beautiful as usual…
So sad about your work not being a regular in CK. I was a regular follower…hope to see you work elsewhere.
thank you for the idea…i didn’t mangage to take a picture on the third, and i was wondering what to do. a letter to my daughters is perfect! thank you for always inspiring!
Love the simplicity of letters for Day 3, Ali!
Love your giveaways! Workin on my dec. daily- Thanks for such a great idea
Ali-
I had 2 questions 6 comments above this one. I got both of them answered – so never mind! I’m good to go – busy working on my dd album
Hi, Ali, a couple questions about journaling…
When you print text from your printer, what type of paper do you use so that it doesn’t smear? Another related quesiton, when you handwrite your journaling, what type of paper/pen do you use? I have tried so many different pens, but they all seem to bleed and skip when I write…I would like to handwrite most of my journaling, but have yet to find a good paper to pen match…
Hey Lori – sorry I missed those! Glad you got them answered and are on your way! Enjoy
.
Hi Jennifer – I print on a variety of different papers: photo paper, canvas, cardstock, etc. Are you having issues with smearing? Usually I will set the paper settings to reflect whatever surface it is that I am printing on (heavyweight, photo, etc). I handwrite on just about everything also and most of the time use Precision Pens from American Crafts (either those or Slick Writers). I have used these pens for quite a few years now and continue to be happy with them.
