Looking For Non-Toy Stocking Ideas

Running errands and catching up on some stuff around here today and thinking about stocking stuffers. I would love to hear if you have any traditions/favorites that are not toys to go in a child's or an adult's stocking. Anything beyond books, movies, candy, oranges, etc?

Hope to have Days 7 & 8 of my December Daily up tomorrow.

WOW!! Such great ideas from everyone.
Did not see tub crayons mentioned or the color fizz tablets for the bath. If bathtime is an issue, these can be fun. If not, they are still a blast!!
    Mittens/gloves are fun-practical!
    Merry, merry:)

A baggie of stuff to build the snowman. Hat, mittens, sticks, candy or buttons for the eyes and carrot for the nose. I put other little crafts in there so that the kids can make them and use as gifts or gift tags. They put beads on a wire and then wind the wire into a twirl (about 7 inches long) and a bow on top. Then another fun one for kids is the wooden ornaments they can either paint or use sharpie markers. We did shrinkey dinks too....we always got those as kids....window clings (they have those new cool gel ones now).

Another good one is a "book on tape (cd now)". I would have a friend or my brother record a new christmas book in their "elf" voice.

My girls love to get toothbrushes, especially my 3 year old autistic daughter. She likes to go to bed with one in each hand. My almost 6 year old likes the spin toothbrushes.

I but Simon would love a pocket sized wind up flashlight. It is so fun to read the ideas. Our family doesn't celebrate Christmas, but I love the the stocking tradition. Have fun stuffing...

A small craft project. Like the kind you find in the dollar bin at craft stores. I found a wooden ornament and marker set at Jo-Anns for my girls. Fits perfect in the stocking too.

Oh Ali, another cool thing would be to make a cd of all your sons favorite songs. My son adores Star Wars so we made a cd with the Star Wars themes from the movies and also included the Wierd Al songs Yoda and Star Wars: The Saga Begins. We put a few other songs on there that he likes. Now the cd stays in the car and he loves listening to it.

I have 2 boys - 3 years old and 10 months old. For the older one, I've got some art supplies, a card game, socks, toothbrush & toothpaste, underwear, a small recorder/flute; for the little one, I've got a sippy cup, soothers, toothbrush, tattoo bandages. They're still young enough not to care that they're getting mostly practical things that we would get them regardless!

A practical idea that almost everyone can use is a USB stick that they can hang on their key chain. Nowadays you can get them for $20.
For my college age son I always put together a little kit full of things that make life so much easier if you have them but he is too cheap to buy for himself because they are "optional" items... Chapstick, Bandaids and antiseptic cream, Tylenol, Q-tips, eye drops, nail clippers, scotch tape to name a few.
My high school daughter loves perfume and will haul around a bottle of it in her purse, so I try to find the travel sizes for her stocking. I also give her blank cards and a set of alphabet stamps from the craft store so she can make her own cards for whatever is coming up. This saves me a trip to the store everytime she has to go to a birthday party and her friends love a hand-stamped card.

I myself like to put arts and crafts things in my childrens stockings. You can pick them up at Michael and ACmoore stores for pretty cheap. This gives them something to do later on after they are all played out with the new toys.
