Tuesday Morning In Photos

Around here just a touch of snow often results in a no-school day.

She was excited to have him home.

She caught him up on what's been happening on Sesame Street...

and Sid The Science Kid.

And then it was time to check out the white stuff.

It was cold. And icy.

They were happy to come back inside after a quick little visit to our neighbor.

And then she was ready to play in her kitchen while he played with legos.

We also had a quick visit from my Dad who drove over from the coast bearing a gift of fresh dungeness crab. One of the things he loves to do is to go crabbing - the other day he caught a bunch and cracked it all for us to enjoy at Thanksgiving.

My Mom sent me these photos (can you see that organizing might run in the family) of the picking process.

Thanks Dad! We wish you guys could be here for Thanksgiving!

Today I'm planning to spend some time in the kitchen making a couple things ahead of time for tomorrow: Pioneer Woman's mashed potatoes and her pecan pie, a chocolate pudding pie per Simon's request, and some crab dip.

If school gets canceled with a skiff of snow I need to move closer to you :)

We have had 3 separate snowfalls of over 4 inches and nothing is closed yet.

We've been having multiple snow days here too! (Seattle) And when I checked out the mashed potato recipe, it looked very similar to what we call "Mashed Potato Casserole" that we make every year - except we add sour cream instead of half-and-half. Delicious! Have a great Thanksgiving!

I loved your photos, Ali, but when I saw your dad's crab organized as it was, I laughed so hard it brought tears to my eyes. It was so funny, adorable, touching and yes, sigh-inducing to me. I loved it! There are things in life that can never be completely explained for others, only shared. Thanks for sharing.

    Dear Ali,
thank you for sharing your so calm and happy home photos.. I like to read about your every day life cause it fills me with happiness and joy. This is something I would love to have for me and my family somewhen in future (and now I'm spending much too many hours at office working.. and quite rarely have time to spend in at home with the one I love). Looking at your photos helps me to understand what I'm doing wrong or right, to think about what I do and what I want. Reading your blog has helped me much already. Thank you for that.

okay so I guess it's not that cold out here in CA ( 38 this AM @ 7 AM). At least we don't have snow! Loved the pictures of the kids lounging together & the photos of the crab...yeah that organizing thing must be in your DNA! :) We too are having crab but I bet my photos won't look anything like yours! Happy Thanksgiving to all!

We have about seven inches here just east of Seattle so you may have more snow in your forecast =0)

wow, to have someone pick crab for you... that's LOVE! We always have to pick our own - then of course enjoy it thoroughly, but everyone that wants crab, helps crack it! Lovely pics - the organized crab photos amazed me! Ours ends up in a big bowl of shells, with the crab meat either devoured while cracking, or shared in a salad. Any lingering snow today? We have quite a bit still here in Corvallis - but it's slipping away quickly... Such a sweet pre-thanksgiving surprise!

Another Canadian chiming in (way up in the NWT). I love the idea of snow days but we never have them (I'm lying I think the catholic schools were closed one day a couple of years ago when we hit -48 Celsius - there must have been a burst pipe). When I was in elementary school here we weren't allowed outside for recess if "exposed flesh freezes in under a minute".

Oh, wow, Ali! Thanks for the pudding pie recipe link b/c I have two hungry chocolate pie people in my house! And that whole website produced about ten recipes in two minutes (love brussels sprouts!) so I bookmarked it. The photos of the kids are precious! Enjoy your family time together.
