Project Life 2012 | Week Two + Free Download

Welcome to Project Life 2012 | Week Two.

I’ve got a free “one little week” download for you today that includes both a PNG and a Silhouette file (both are included in a zip file – for more on downloading go here).

Click here to download One Little Week.

Here’s a look at Week Two:

Lots and lots of photos this week.

Sometimes it leans heavier one way or the other (more or less photos) and I tend to just go with it. My Mom was here with us from Tuesday through yesterday helping me paint my office. It was a big job and I’m so thankful she was here to help.

I used my new Rituals & Routines word art set (“Tuesday Ritual”) on the bottom left photo. A Jillibean Soup Corrugated Heart is on top of some word art from my For The Love Of Love word art package. The little flag on the top photo is from Elles Studio.

For the insert this week I used a Design D page protector and cut off the outside pockets (I like when the inserts are smaller than the main pages for the week).

I loved doing the little 4×3 photos (tutorial available here) and including a couple vertical photos. I almost never take vertical shots (just not how I look through the lens) but since my Mom was here she shot a few with my camera. The photo of the crab I took with my iphone.

I really want to include a few more “peek through” elements like the one I did on my title page for 2012 throughout the year. The Silhouette works great for that – I was able to cut out this word element and stick it right in the pocket (download it for free at the beginning of this post).

The fact that you can’t read it from the back doesn’t bother me at all.

You might also notice that I placed two, 4×3 photos on one 4×6 canvas and added that into one of the vertical pockets vs. cutting them all out (and a good option for someone like me who takes more horizontal than vertical photos).

An Avery Self-Adhesive index tab along the edge of the insert. I don’t add these every time I include an insert, but a lot of the time.

Notes From Today tag is from Elles Studio.

I love your week Ali, again so many good memories. My favorite is seeing your mom in there, so happy she’s there to support you and help out right now when you need it.

Miss Anna is so precious in her ballet photos, love those. Hooray for Simon and George.

We are painting at our house to and I included our paint chips that were choosing from. Love when we can add these into the little pockets.

Thanks so much for the download, love this idea.

    Have a good week!!

    Hurray! Great freebie!
I’m trying to figure out how to approach the whole PL thing the best way hybrid, without making it too complicated! It’s quite a challange, because i’m still waiting for the arrival of the PL stuff here at the other side of the ocean, and i don’t have a 12×12 printer… anyway, the png and silhouette format of your freebie is perfect, and will totally match with the other stuff you’ve designed that plan to use!

Great week Ali! And, thanks so much for your tutorials on digital things. I’ve referred back so many times. I’m forcing myself to use PSE for as much as I can, and it’s getting easier, which is really bringing PL to a whole new level for me.

I do have a question. I love portrait 5×7 layouts and I’m having a heck of a time finding page protectors that are portrait in that size. I know we had them for OLW last year..but I can’t for the life of me find them. Help?

I would just like to say, again, that I love your Project Life. Everyone has a different take on it and that is great, but in my eyes yours is perfect, capturing the moments with photos and telling the story, with just the right amount of embellishing. I have been so overwhelmed with this project and always look forward to seeing yours. Sorry if this sounds a bit stalker like, I am just a big fan :) Thank you the free download and tutorials too.

What a great suggestion of using 2 3×4 photos in place of one portrait 4×6. I am noticing that I take quite a few 4×6 photos but not always enough to balance out the page!

    Cynthia said…

thanks for the download! I love your layouts and I am going to use your tutorial on the 3×4 photos (I have a feeling it may be more efficient than how I am currently approaching it).

I must also say Ali that I love the simplicity with which you approach this project. I know you have a lot of elements going on but your stylistic approach has remained the same and I truly appreciate this. The more viral PL goes (and it is such a GREAT concept), the more uber creative people are becoming and I think this is why so many people are feeling overwhelmed at the thought of starting, staying with or understanding the beauty that is PL. I really appreciate your realistic approach to PL and how you convey participating in it in such a low key and doable manner. Thanks!

    • ….
      Ali said…

I agree with you Cynthia – about the creative part and I feel a bit of that pressure too. I know as I was working on my week last night I kept repeating words to myself about getting the words down and the photos in :) . I love that there are so many different ways it can be done and that it can be a creative outlet and it can take as much or as little time as you want. The key is to make it be what you want/need it to be vs. trying to make it look like other people’s stuff.

I just watched your tutorial again…I know how to get the pics on the canvas, but when I print borderless, my printer cuts off part of the image I have read a technical explanation of why this happens, but I don’t know how to fix it! Any suggestions?

Love your Project Life and thanks for the freebie!

    • ….
      Ali said…

Hi Helen – do you have the option to print borderless without “auto expand”? Mine has two options – auto expand and something along the line of “retain actual size” – these are options when I choose which paper type for printing. You might want to check that out.

      ChezLou said…

I had a similar issue using PS and printing either 2 3×4 or a single photo from a 4×6 layout – the image was slightly cut off even with borderless printing. This was particularly obvious as I am adding a rounded corners white border to my photos.

For my Canon MP560, going into PS Page Setup > Scale > 97% resolved the issue. It will likely be different for your printer, but at least something to look at.

Ali mentioned laying out 2 landscape photos in one portrait 4×6 – I do that a lot as no Design A pockets available right now. I users many as 3 photos, cropped and scaled differently, especially for those events with several moments documented.

Question… i am using a Mac with Photoshop Elements. When I used a P.C., I had no problems putting some of your digital word art onto one of my photos for printing. After I import a photo into P.E and import one of your digital word arts into P.E., I will use the move tool to drag it onto my photo. Now when I drag it onto my photo, nothing happens. It’s like it has vanished behind the photo. Can you give me any suggestions?

Can’t wait to have those page protectors to become available. I’ve been collecting memorabillia, writting notes in a blog to remember what happened during that day and still have pics in my camera that I didn’t print yet until I get the page protectors. Quick question: Do your page protectors stick to your photos and look smudgy? I constantly have to lift it off the photo when I want to photograph my work.

    • ….
      Ali said…

They don’t stick Mallory – I know what you are talking about. Do you print your photos at home? Might be that they are still wet? I’ve had that happen in the past with different printers -

    • ….
      Mallory said…

I do print them at home and I thought that maybe why, but I’ve left photos overnight before sticking them in the page protector, and they still stick. :( Must be my photo paper? Or printer. It’s an older HP model. Hp photosmart 7960

Hi Ali..thanks for the download..I’m loving PL!

I need some sports brushes..wish you would make some with sports sayings ..and I can’t find anything for cheerleading? Got lots of sports pictures for PL, and would love to have some brushes or overlays or something for them…my kids play baseball, softball, basketball, cheer, maybe one with all types of sayings or something? that would ROCK@ :)

Hi Heather – thanks for the suggestion (I’m always open). If you’d be willing to email me a list of words you’d like to see related to sports – just a big brainstorm is fine – I’d love to add those to my list of upcoming digital products.

Ali, What do you do with the cut off piece of page protector? I suppose I am too cheap to “waste” something like that without knowing what to do with that piece. Maybe not creative enough…Just curious. It is a great idea though.

Hi Sandra – this one I just threw away. Sometimes I save them thinking I will add them to a layout (like stitching them on for some pockets) but I haven’t made that happen just yet.
