The words.

Went through all the comments from the last few days tonight and collected all the words. Reading your words + your reasons were uplifting + inspiring. Thank you for sharing. If I missed your word leave a note in the comments section and I will add it to this list.

And there is always time to choose a word if you have not done so yet.

my word: NOW. a few reasons why:
    1. I am a procrastinator by nature, it seems. always have been one, and probably always will be to some extent. but i want to work on this. i find myself missing out on things because i waited too long to get to them, or scrambling at the last minute to get something done. i want to change that mentality and do something when i THINK about it...not "get to it later."
and 2. i have always been a "planner." not a bad thing, but sometimes i plan so much that i forget about the here and NOW. i have been working on this in myself, but it is an ongoing process that i want to continue. plan less and live more. just DO it. whether it be listening to my moods more than reading my planning calendar, or even in my art/scrapbooking...PLAN less and just DO more. simplify so i can just DO it. NOW. instead of THINKING about doing it tomorrow.

My word is "Adopt". Considering it is a word I never gave much thought to, it seems now to be one I use and think about daily. My husband and I adopted a 4 year old dog from our local animal shelter in October of 2005. She has brought so much love and happiness into our home, she is like our child.
"Adopt" is also very special to us this year as we start adoption classes next week and hope that we can adopt a baby this year.
I took me several years of dealing with infertility before I finally "adopted" a new perspective on starting our family.
Last but not least, it is a word I am going to use more in my daily routine by adopting a new attitude when I am annoyed with someone in my travels for the day, eg/ someone cuts me off, cuts in line, is rude etc. You get the idea.
    So, 2008 = Adoption
    Laura

I want to thank you for this inspiration, Ali. My word is PROTECT. As in the choices I make everyday to protect my marriage, my children, my animals, my size jeans, even my credit score! I am so pleased to have found your wonderful, creative site. Happy Monday...

Wow that list is awesome! I can't believe how may words everyone came up with it. I didn't see my word though....PRAYER.
Last year my word was faith but I can't have faith without PRAYER. So this year my goal is to pray a lot more. I know I need to go to the Lord with everything in PRAYER. So that's how I choose my word for this year.
Thank you Ali, for doing this again this year.

    Significance
I don't want to be personally significant or important or a VIP - I want my every action to be significant, meaningful, deliberate, and I want to stop wasting time. I feel this urge very deeply this year.

Great list, Ali. I don't respond to your blog very often, but I do enjoy it. I think a great word that I don't pay much heed to, but NEED to, is "SATISFIED". Our oven and a fridge went out during the holidays and I was thinking about getting new ones but, once we went looking I thought ours were just as nice looking as the newer models (a little older, of course). But they could be fixed and be perfectly fine. :( So my husband fixed what was wrong and now they're working like new again. (Thank God my husband is pretty handy with fixing stuff!) I SO wanted to get something new and shiny. It's hard to restrain and refrain and be satisfied with our stuff sometimes!!! But from not having those items for several days, I appreciate them working and don't mind them being used! I'm very "SATISFIED". Thanks!

Wow, this list is really cool. I can see making a list like this into some sort of border around my new crafting space in my new home that I really hope I acquire in 2008.
I had really been dragging my feet on all things "new year" this year. Usually I'm all over it but 2007 was a hard, hard year and I guess I felt like just making it to January 1 was good enough. This list though drew me like a magnet and then I found the inspiration in the comments when I saw 'adopt'. Mine will be 'adapt'. My life changed so much when my Mom died last year and I have quite frankly refused to adapt but I know that no amount of my pouting is going to bring her back and she'd kick my fanny for doing it this long. It's time to start finding ways to adapt to this new world.
Ali, your blog is tops in my reader and this is why! Thanks!
    Peg

I found having a word (balance)last year very helpful to focus on what I was trying to achieve...and hope it will this year also :)

    Hi Ali,
One more that I think is not listed yet. I've been thinking about this for a while now, and I think my word for this year will be aspire. Lots of goals and dreams for this year; things I want to acheive. Don't want to forget about them as the day-to-day rolls on and the months go by.
