Three Things : Creative Books (+ a giveaway)
Three books to inspire, challenge and fill you up creatively this week:
True Vision: Authentic Art Journaling by LK Ludwig : I got to meet LK at Artfest last year and enjoyed her art just about as much as her personality. I ordered this book last night and am looking forward to some new ideas (it's been quite awhile since I picked up my art journal). After looking through the next book on the list (see below) I have some good ideas for backgrounds to try.
Acrylic Revolution by Nancy Reyner : This book is packed full with techniques for working with acrylic paint. I have been looking through it the last couple of evenings, dreaming about potentially doing some painting, and being really inspired to get out my paints and try something new and different (new + different for me).
Taking Flight: Inspiration And Techniques To Give Your Creative Spirit Wings by Kelly Rae Roberts : I was lucky to see an advanced copy of this book on my recent girl's weekend and I can't wait to get my own. There are a bunch of mixed media how-to's as well as a lot of words (of which you know I am a fan - I like to know the thoughts behind the actions whenever possible). According to Kelly Rae, "this book isn't a traditional how-to book, but rather a book that dives deeper into telling our stories about how we came into the creative life - as a way to inspire others to stretch their wings and see what is possible for their own creativity."
Here's one of the Amazon reviews on this book:
Kelly Rae Roberts is an amazingly talented artist and apparently
equally gifted as a writer as well. This book is a journey from her
soul right into yours. It's part journal, part sitting around getting
deep with your girlfriends, part interviews with other talented artists
and part art instruction. So very different from other art books, even
from the same publisher. It goes above and beyond and straight into
your heart & head, making you think about your own creativity.
And until you find your creative spirit, the how-to make art
sections are very clearly thought out and well written. I know that I
will be able duplicate even the pieces that had materials I've never
used before.
This book is a treasure that I know I will refer to again and again.
I have two copies of Taking Flight to give away this week. To be entered into the drawing leave a comment below and let me know about your favorite creative technique is these days (it can be scrapbooking, mixed media, anything). Comments will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5pm Pacific and the winners announced shortly after.

I am so thankful that I have found and embraced digital....I am still able to find some time for me by scrapbooking, and keep up with my hectic schedule that is my life.

I always use rubber stamping in some form or another.... of late I have been trying to do creative things with punches...I did a border recently on a scrapbook page using cut up portions of a circle punch out, and was really pleased with the result. Simple but effective, imo. (obviously I think this book would push me to different levels!!!)

I am still all about the scrapbooking. I haven't had much time to do it the past year or so, but I've recently gotten recharged and am really excited about this hobby again!

The book is beautiful.
The latest technique I am using is Donna Downey's layered newspaper pages. It looks so cool and is so easy.

I'm primarily a card-maker, though I do a bit of scrapbooking for my boys :) My favorite technique is paper-piecing...stamping an image on patterned paper, cutting out the parts I want, and adding them to the same image stamped on plain paper. I love the effects you can get and the look!!

Blogging about my Daily Photo project has been the creative challenge that has pushed me past old boundaries that set limits on what I thought I could do. And I have you to thank for starting me on that. So BIG THANKS

Thank you so much for the giveaway opportunity! I'm very much into recycling materials like envelopes, tags, paper, cards, etc. I love incorporating things that would be normally thrown away into my albums.

I love inspirational thoughts, quotes, music, books whatever. The creative technique I love using is big words with little photos/journaling. Simple but big is impressive!

my favorite is punching out a die-cut (or finding an old diecut i could care less about and place on chipboard, then use foil tape on top to create a metal embossed look with my chipboard. nice accent. :)Sesil

My favourite technique at present is making my own stamps from simple string colied/stretched/laid into shapes on top of double-sided carpet tape, which is itself stuck onto lightweight card/mounting board. Using them with acrylics, inks and paintsticks - and they look different each time!

My favorite outlet right now is blogging. I'm really getting into it and learning more about formatting. I've "met" some great bloggers so far and am so excited when people respond to my posts. I've been posting everyday!

I am into my altered book right now, and my little addiction is using individual rubber stamp letters to spell things out. It's so gratifying, combines so well with mixed media, and looks great over the small print layer of the book pages.

Right now, I am loving my glimmer mists. I've used it with my stencils, distressing my tags, and just plain misting it over cards and other "stuff." I love how it gives my art another layer of interest (water color-ish, shimmery, and just plain beautiful colors).
