One Little Word 2010

I am a fan of welcoming the new year with open arms. I love fresh starts, new opportunities, clean slates, possibilities.

Back in January 2007, as a way to celebrate these beginnings, I started a public tradition of choosing a single word to focus on over the course of the year.

Many of you are familiar with this tradition and have been joining me in selecting a new word each year. If this is your first time reading about the idea of one little word I recommend taking a few minutes to read my original post here.

Here's a look at my words from the past three years with links to the original posts.

2007 : Peace [ read my post for 2007 ]
2008 : Vitality [ read my post for 2008 ]
2009 : Nurture [ read my post for 2009 ]

Essentially the idea is to choose a word (or let it choose you) that has the potential to make an impact on your life.

Maybe you want to invite something or maybe you are hoping to subtract something. Maybe your word will be practical or hopeful or creative or fanciful. Maybe you need a big word, something in-your-face that will challenge you everyday. Maybe you need something smaller and quieter that will whisper gentle tidings as you make your way throughout the year.

Whatever word you end up with, make sure it is your word (not your sister's, mom's, partner's, child's, etc). You can share it publicly or keep it close to your heart.

My word for 2010 is STORY.

I'm planning to do a post with more details on my thoughts about this word on Wednesday (look for the finishing pages of my December Daily tomorrow). I am hoping to use my word as a springboard for a variety of different projects and inspirations, in my life and my scrapbooking, over the next 365 days.

Have you chosen your word yet?

My word for 2010 is MAKE. I need a good positive 'doing' word. It embraces creating but also purpose and choice - making a difference, making the difference, making a decision and making time and allowances.
2010 is my year for getting excited and making things :)

I cannot put into words the year that my family and I have had - even my extended family and friends. What I do know is this year my word has to be simplify. The definition of this is "absence of
complication." That is what I need this year more than anything in the world. I will strive to SIMPLIFY every day in every way.
    Thank you!

I've been thinking about what my word for 2010 would be for a few weeks now. I had settled on "Balance" since I really need to find some amidst the many things pulling for my attention. But then, I was catching up on blog reading today and came across a post on MckMama that has changed my mind. In it, she writes about "who you are when no one is looking" and so much of the post resonated with me. But there's one line, in which she writes about bringing two elements of her life into "better harmony" and my heart literally skipped a beat at reading the word "harmony" It sounds so cheesy, but I instantly knew that it had to be my word. So, 2010 will be the Year of Harmony for me. The definition I'm going with is: "A pleasing combination of elements in a whole" So very perfect!

My word for the coming year is Believe. I need to believe in myself, that I am good, that I can accomplish what I set out to do and also to believe that God will provide for me and lead me in the right direction. If something doesn't work out how I had envisioned, to accept that, knowing that God is working in my best interests. So I need to keep remembering to believe and not doubt.

My word for 2010 is "follow-through."
I am a starter... not a finisher. I have the best intentions but they tend to fall by the wayside. I am easily distracted... and well-meaning. Not intentionally flaky, but I am.
So this year, I plan on starting things, projects, habits... and KEEPING them. :)

My word for 2010 is EMBRACE. I can't believe how many times it has popped into my head over the last two days. What is means to me is that I will embrace the individual I am, my family, my friends, my work, my abilities, my gifts and blessings and of course my flaws!

My word is better. I'm new to your blog and as I read about one little word, this is the word that came to me, completely unbidden.
My family has suffered a dreadful 2009, what with one thing or another, and I sincerely hope and pray that 2010 will be BETTER.

I think my word is SUSTAIN. I have been attracted to many - prosper (!), fearless, nourish, create, etc. but think I want to encourage myself in ways that I can sustain over the long haul. I have two sons in high school and want to maintain a wonderful relationship with them as well as prepare for any surprises life sends my way. I have my hands in many pots, so want to figure out how to maintain and sustain a healthy, vital life.

Ali - My word for 2009 was journey and it really defined the year. Have been thinking about my word for 2010 over the past few days and want to go with CREATE. I want to create more original work: quilts, scrapbooking albums, little books, ATCs, mixed media pieces, photos, drawings, and anything else I can imagine!
    Thanks for all the inspiration,
    Mary

My word last year was "AWAKE"-awake to the many blessings in my life, awake to the simple things in my life that I miss every day due to distraction, busyness, etc.. This year, my word is "FLOURISH". I want to live in such a way that I will flourish spiritually, physically, artistically, relationally and mentally so that ultimately I might be a blessing to others.

After a lot of pondering I think I have decided on Gratitude= Grateful + attitude - I definately want to be thankful and present in my daily life for all my blessings. Last year was be happy and 08 was simplify. I think I will keep a gratitude journal and am planning an inspired art project to hang in my home as a friendly reminder. Thank you for continueing to inspire and challenge me. I am grateful!

My word is ME. As a mother of two preschoolers I don't find time, do a lot of the things or have the energy for what I want to do. I think I will be a better person if I take time to focus on ME in 2010.
Thanks for challenging and inspiring me.
