favorite tradition is acting out the christmas story with my cousins as my grandpa and now my uncle, read the story from the book of Luke. We're all having kids of our own now, but everyone still must play some role in this production. :)

My 4 year old and I make cookies together. Then we package them and walk around the culdesac handing them out to the neighbors with holiday greetings.

We travel about 30 minutes to a house in the foot hills that decorates their house and property with hundreds of thousands of lights. They bring a camel in and the whole thing is just crazy!

My favorite December tradition is waking up early on Christmas morning to get my Christmas stocking. I'm 37 y.o, but it is a strong tradition in our family that EVERYONE gets a stocking, even adults. Instead of a present, the stocking is jammed with candy, nuts, fruit and a book/magazine. We stay in bed and read and munch on the nuts, fruits and candy for a looooong time before getting ready for the celebrations. It really puts a relaxed and wonderful feeling to the day from the very start!

Three generations gather to make a gingerbread house. Okay, so it's a pre-made kit, but we enjoy this so much because we only see grandparents once or twice a year.

I have two favorite traditions. One is our holiday baking day that brings together four generations of ladies in our family for Christmas cookie baking. The second happens on Christmas Eve. Our neighborhood sets up luminaries to line the streets and driveways. On Christmas Eve after dinner my family goes for a walk around the neighborhood looking at the beautiful lights. It is a great time. A time of bundled up quietness with just the six of us.

My mother-in-law immigrated from Denmark as a young girl. We are so blessed that she carried out many of the traditions of her childhood with her children and that we are now able to do the same. So hard to choose just one, but I do love having real candles on our tree, lighting them on Christmas Eve, pulling the tree into the middle of the room so we can walk around singing carols, even a few in Danish. I love the symbol of light as a reminder of why we celebrate this time of year.

Favorite Family tradition is decorating a Gingerbread House. Each year we try to find a new way to do it. We are building it with crispy rice this year. (Think crispy rice treats.)
