December Daily™ 2012 | Day Four

Before leaving for my trip I made a fold-out insert for my album using three pieces of 4x6 cardstock + washi tape (tape along both sides of the seams where the papers meet).

Along one edge I created a pocket with an page protector (a larger one) to hold some of the word veneer alphabet from the Studio Calico kit (used my sewing machine to create the pocket). I saw someone else do something similar recently via Twitter (creating a home for the wood letters within a page protector but I can't remember who it was - if it was you please let me know). I didn't end up making it tight enough so they have moved around a bit, but I'm going with it (I used the pointed end of a paint brush to slide the letters in the pocket).

On the top I adhered a test cut I did with my Silhouette using the font Bebas and the sentiments "merry and bright" and "peace and love."

Here's what it ended up looking like after I added the photos (I used a Walgreens app on my phone to upload my photos and picked them up at one close to my hotel):

The far right side slips into the page protector and the other two pieces are folded on the outside.

And the other side:

I too have NYC on my list. I told my husband we will be going without kids before my 50th birthday. Just a few years away.

Love your observations. When asked what I want to do in NYC. I want to walk, window shop, and people watch. Of course, the usual tourist things. But mostly observe.

Great pull out pages. Washi is so great for that. I also love being able to print from Walgreens while on the go.

Ali, there is no way my Cameo could cut letters that tiny. Any tips or tricks to share?

Thanks! Good to know that your cut isn't clean either. I'm still new to the Cameo and not sure what it can and can't do.

No tips or tricks - it basically "kinda" worked but it's definitely a messy cut. At first I was going to just trash it but ended up liking the messy look.

Wow, what awesome give-aways. What I like about your posts, Ali, is how adaptable they are - whether used for Dec Daily or for a small gift book. Thanks so much.

    Ali-

I purchased your 6x8 overlays. As I was trimming them (PDF Gray), I realized that they aren't really 6x8. They are a smidge under 6" (which isn't a big deal) but are only 7 5/8" long from cut line to cut line. Which does look a little off. Am I doing something wrong?

Yes, when you select print in Adobe Reader you should have some different options that come up in a window before it actually prints.

Hi Shelly - it sounds like you may need to adjust the print settings. Make sure to select "don't fit to page" or "no scaling" when printing.

Is there such an option in Adobe Reader? I am just printing the PDFs onto white cardstock.
      thanks for your help, Ali!

I add a new piece of cardstock (except I did end up adhering to the back of the fold-out for tomorrow).

Love, love, love the fold out. I am definitely adding this to my album for none other than our day in NYC this week. Radio City, Rockefeller Center, and St. Patrick's Cathedral. Was trying to find a way to solve including it all and you've solved that dilemma.

I love how the wood veneer letters aren't straight but kind of jumbled and chaotic, and playful; just how I imagine NYC is at Christmas! A happy accident, I think!!
