Pieces Of Us | Self Portrait Community Project

Last night I woke up around 3am and couldn't go back to sleep because I started thinking about a fun community project we could do together next week.

I got up, went to my computer and came up with the following community creative adventure: Pieces Of Us.

WHEN

Monday, February 10th through Sunday, February 16th.

REASONS WHY

  1. To get yourself in the story. Literally
  2. To play and experiment with your camera (most likely I'll just be using my iPhone).
  3. To practice developing your own photo voice.
  4. To practice loving ourselves using the lens of our cameras. I love this as a February project.
  5. To play along with a community of storytellers.

SCHEDULE

Here's the schedule for next week as we capture pieces of ourselves:

  • Monday: Feet
  • Tuesday: Hands
  • Wednesday: Face Forward (let your face fill the frame)
  • Thursday: Eyes Closed
  • Friday: 1/2 face (take a photo or crop a photo to only include a portion of your face)
  • Saturday: Full body
  • Sunday: Reflection

I'll be sharing my images on Instagram using the hashtag: #aepiecesofus

My initial plan is that I'll create a layout afterwards that will go into an album that holds stories about me. It could also fit really well into your One Little Word® album or it might just be that for this project you want to focus on the photos only. Either way, I want this to be a fun, experimental, creative practice for our community.

Need some inspiration to get you going?

I love this idea, because it’s terrifying. Perfect for my year of pushing myself to do things that are uncomfortable.

Wow, Ali, this goes hand in hand with Stacy's 20in20 class project this month - create a mini album of ourselves. And how awesome is it that my semi annual trip to the spa for luxury birthday pedicures with my dear friend (24 hours younger) was already in place for MONDAY the 10th! What a great start to a great idea! Thanks for the birthday celebration today!!!!!

Love your inspiration and the challenges you share with us. I have been thinking about how few photos of myself there are in my albums. In the past I felt that taking selfies was, well, being self absorbed. But its not and I am part of this life and I need to document that.
Thanks for this idea even if it did wake you up at 3am.
    Excited to get started!

Do you know the phrase "when you are ready to learn the teacher appers" or so (it is a translation :) ) I've had a terrible "existencial crisis" a couple of weeks ago and am on a self recognizer journey - to name it something. I had several awsome revelations during these last few days, but I get it and I am willing for the first time on 47 years to work on loving myself. yesterday I received an invitation to join Ivana Vanzant "Spiritual Spa" and was about self love. Today I see you email on my inbox, and it is as if the "Universe is conspiring for my personal growth" Thank you @Ali Edwards, I truly appreciate you and this opportunity. it means SO MUYCH for me.. Love to you all xoxo

I so want to start memory keeping but get paralyzed by where to start. I feel like I need to go back to at least when my kids were born and start there, but then I never do and get discouraged by starting "in the middle", ugh! Any tips or suggestions for just starting where I am? Thanks!
