December Daily® 2021 | Special Guest Ashley Horton

Hi everyone! It’s Ashley and I’m excited to be on the Blog today, with a look at my completed 2021 December Daily album! I loved being a part of the December Daily Creative team and having the opportunity to work with all of the amazing products and the talented ladies, who also served on the Creative Team.

As crafters, most of us know that our albums are always a work in progress and there is no such thing as being caught up. But, for me, December Daily is always one of those albums I complete every year. It is so satisfying to have a finished album that documents all of our December moments. My goal each year, is to have my album completed no later than mid-January…and for 2021 I was able to finish a bit earlier than that.

The biggest game changer for me, has been creating foundation pages. They are definitely not for everyone, but they really work for me. I can get a jump start on my album by creating my foundation pages in late October and throughout the month of November. A lot of the stories in my album are the same ones I share from year to year, so I kind of usually have an idea of what I want the pages to look like without actually having the photos for them. For the “spontaneous” stories, I try to create generic pages that will work for any type of photos or story.

One example of that, is my Day 17 foundation page. I didn’t have a specific photo or story in mind for this page when I created it. But, one of the stories I had not planned for, was when our family went to the Christmas parade. I was able to work my photos and story into this foundation page, by using the die cut star flip out to hold my photos and journaling.

Another way I try to organize and stay on track with my album, is by making a list of stories that I want to include. There are always the favorite holiday movies, decorations, and Christmas Eve/Day stories. But, I always have an idea of any events or activities that we will be doing in December, so I go ahead and make a list that includes everything to let me know when I have a total of 25 stories. I use the Evernote app every year to make my list, and since it’s on my phone which I always have with me, I can update it easily any time I need to.

I would love for you to check out my completed December Daily! I have a flip thru video, that you can find on my YouTube channel.

I also have all of my pages on my Instagram account, ashleyhorton75, and you can find all of my December Daily pages under the hashtag #ashleyhortondecdaily21.

Before I go, I’ve got some of my favorite layouts to share with you.

One of my life-saver layouts was the canvas pockets that I put together to document a trip that we took on December 9-13. I really love how this page came together and it was such a time-saver for getting the trip documented, once we got home.

And I loved using these fun pockets to document the different ways we were able to help others during the holiday season.

I shared a process video for Day 21, showing how I created the foundation page to document my favorite Christmas songs.

No matter what stories end up in my album every year, I always end it with Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Thanks so much for checking out my album today! I hope no matter where you are in your December Daily, that you’ve been inspired by some of the things I’ve shared from my album!
