How to eat a kiwifuit.

Kiwi1

I was sitting here this morning eating a kiwi and thinking about how happy I was that I had seen how my friend Jeffrey eats kiwis. Before this I would have always tried to peel it (with a knife of course) - it was just too much trouble. I mentioned it to Chris - who is sitting behind me on the other computer - and he said, "now that is a blog post. Just think how many more people may be able to enjoy eating a kiwi."

Here's Jeffrey's recipe for success in eating a kiwi:

1. slice a bit off the top and the bottom

2. place the kiwi on a plate

3. use a spoon to dig in and enjoy

Kiwi2

No peeling, no mess. Pure kiwi fruit enjoyment.

Have a great Sunday - and WOW on all the awesome challenge posts over the last couple of days. Love how you guys worked those stamps!

Or try cutting the kiwi directly in half. Then you have a little cup to hold while you scoop out the yummies with your spoon. Either way, glad you're not trying to peel them anymore!

I never ever peeled a kiwi! I always cut it in half and eat it like you showed us. It's funny to read this - but now I think there will be lots of people that are peeling their kiwis...
It's really funny! Thank you Ali!

Using a grapefuit spoon with the serrated tip (much like a KFC spork) works great too! I have one just for that use.

I learned the same thing in Japan last month - except, I cut them in half and eat them with a grapefruit spoon. In Japan my host family ate them with a small spoon, similar to a demitasse spoon. Glad we're not trying to peel them anymore.

Here in Australia (and NZ I think) kiwis sometimes come with a little serrated plastic dooley for just this purpose, so you can eat them on the run. Environmentally unsound but very handy!

In my recent travels to the US there were many conversations about the use of the word Kiwi.
Now, where I come from, (NZ, via Australia) that kiwi at the top of the page is always called a Kiwifruit (one word) a Kiwi is either a flightless bird with a flippin long beak that lays eggs bigger than any other bird its size... or a person who hails from the fair shores of NZ.
SO, when the title "how to eat a kiwi" came up in my bloglines feeds I was a little concerned...
    Phew. All is well...
    As you were!

Wow! I always peeled and got upset at the fruit that I would inadvertantly cut away while trying to *only* get the peel. This is a much better way. Thanks!

It really is the only way to do it!! although I often don't cut off the bottom....just the top and then dig the insides out as I stand over the sink!

I too am a kiwi and had a giggle that people would peel the kiwifruit...and like Sarah mentioned we eat with a serated plastic tool that allows you to slice the top off and then scoop it out and eat it ....let me know if you wanted one and I would be most happy to send both you and Jeffrey one lol....

I wish I knew you when I was little...I was staying the night at a girlfriends house and her mom served us whole kiwi fruit. Just the fruit by the way...no spoon or anything. So I had never seen one befor and so naturally I take a bite. Lets just say it was HIGHLY uncomfortable. Them little pricklers stuck to my toungue for seamed like ages. Totally did NOT do that again! With this post...you just saved someone from pure irritating discomfort! tfs -Karla

Gee! I didn't know people still tried to peel kiwis! LOL I just cut in half, so DD has two halfs to scoop out - you don't waste any that way.

... and for Tara, my mum used to prepare mango by cutting in half, removing the stone and then slicing the flesh in each half diagonally both ways and inverting the fruit (pushing the skin side inwards) so the flesh stands up like a hedgehog. Well, it's easier to do than to explain LOL How do others do it?
