Yesterday We...

Chris_swearingin
Yesterday we went to the Oregon State Capitol for Chris' swearing-in ceremony as a State Senator.

Chris was appointed to fill this seat by the local County Commissioners after Senator Vicki Walker was appointed to chair the Parole Board. It's been busy and exciting around here as he went through the process of seeking this appointment.

For those of you outside the US, this is the elected body that makes laws and sets budgets in our state (Oregon). We also have a National Congress that meets in Washington DC. They make laws for the entire United States. Each state has their own branches of government that mirror the set up at the national level.

Chris moved from the House of Representatives here in Oregon where there were 60 members to the Senate where there are 30. Chris represents somewhere around 115,000 people.

Governor Kulongoski presided over the swearing in (he's the same Governor I have written about before) and both Chris' and my Mom were able to attend.

Simon was most excited about the cake of course.

Loving this little family of ours and I am so proud of Chris.

    Ali,
Congratulations to you and Chris. People like the two of you, and your beautiful children are one of the reasons we can live in a great country. It is not perfect, but it is still great. A strong sense of community and the responsiblity we as the community hold, is what makes it work. Thank you for being part of the solution, and your dedication as a family.

you look so "first lady" in your gorgeous jacket! i especially love the shot of anna touching her brother "lovingly" on the head, or the first shot while Chris is being sworn in.
and i agree that the last one should be blown up for Dad's new office!

Congratulations, Senator Edwards - and family!! What wonderful pictures of this extremely important time in your lives. Remember when Chris was first elected and I predicted you'd be in the White House someday?!! You are on the way, I think. Seriously - such an important job that Chris is working at and I know the commitment it takes from the whole family. It seems to me that the grey is creeping in to the Senator's hair - it's distinguishing :)) God bless!
