Yesterday we went to the Oregon State Capitol for Chris' swearing-in ceremony as a State Senator.
Chris was appointed to fill this seat by the local County Commissioners after Senator Vicki Walker was appointed to chair the Parole Board. It's been busy and exciting around here as he went through the process of seeking this appointment.
For those of you outside the US, this is the elected body that makes laws and sets budgets in our state (Oregon). We also have a National Congress that meets in Washington DC. They make laws for the entire United States. Each state has their own branches of government that mirror the set up at the national level.
Chris moved from the House of Representatives here in Oregon where there were 60 members to the Senate where there are 30. Chris represents somewhere around 115,000 people.

Governor Kulongoski presided over the swearing in (he's the same Governor I have written about before) and both Chris' and my Mom were able to attend.
Simon was most excited about the cake of course.
Loving this little family of ours and I am so proud of Chris.

Yes, that final photo is priceless. What a wonderful family you have. I sort of feel that OR is my home too, living in Camas on the border of Portland. Had know idea you were from these parts! Congrats!

I bet you're proud !!! My dad is in politics too, here in France, and we were pretty proud of him when he got elected back in 2004 !

Congrats to Chris for his "upgrade" from House of Representatives to Senator! I am always so happy to think about someone with integrity and passion for legislation having this job! And you are right that photo of Chris with your baby daughter is just adorable!
